I can't tell you how speculative that statement is IMO. There is no straight line to development success and apart from Horvat I don't think we have any bluechippers on the farm.
We've got no replacement plan for the Sedins. Whatever you think about their game, playing anyone else against top D pairings around the league night in and night out is a nightmare thought when I look down our roster (and the farm). - AlexF
I think in two years Horvat Shink Kassian Mathias Cassels Gaunce, and this years pick will be better than Hansen Higgins Booth Santorelli Schroeder Burrows . Just a hunch.
Nothing is guaranteed .
I also believe through picks and trades we can find Sedin replacements. We will be finishing about 20 th next year and the year after unless some huge trades |

His great leadership couldnt get them past France.... come on man.... what do you think Im going to say.
 - boonerbuck
I knew you would
Truth is I don't mind Bieksa but I would not mind cashing in on his trade value while other teams think he is a # 2 Dman. I think he could bring us back a Kadri whom I would gladly except
Henrik
Kadri
Sutter
Horvat
would be Ideal to me. |

Horvat will make the team, book it. Either that or he goes back to the OHL for a fourth year. I don't want to see that happen. He's got nothing left to prove at that level and he can't play in the AHL. - LeftCoaster
Thats what they said about Jensen when he left junior for Europe but I think he needed to dominate in NA Junior.... which he hadnt yet.

Our D will struggle in 2 years and our O struggles now but in 2 years our O is going to be pretty damn good. Fix the D - VANTEL
I'm not so sure about that. We have some B level forward prospects. Once you compare the prospects around the league, its still looks like we will be behind in this department. As we've witnessed, offense needs the right D to initiate as well. If that missing....
Just because we have some young players coming along doesn't automatically translate to the next generation of high scoring hockey. I don't see a "damn good" future 1st line anywhere yet(Horvat a 2nd liner realistically). I don't think we automatically get a franchise 1st line center out of this draft either. My fingers are crossed...
At this point I see quality 2nd and 3rd liners in the near future. Great, Sedins will be 2nd and 3rd liners as well.

I don't see a first line either but this year next and the next should give us three top 5 prospects. I don't blame the coaching, and think we are a bottom team , and will get top picks. |

We lack depth in D prospects and top end offensive F prospects, not a great place to be in for a non-contender.

It was worth it back when our firsts were always in the 20+ range. You of all people should be valuing the 2015 first as high as anyone else. - Nucker101
No if I can get a Johansen or a Niño I am taking them over a chance where we could finish next year.
A first and a third any time for one of those two. |

Columbus would likely match anything the Canucks would offer. You could get Minny in some trouble if they plan on signing a Vanek. You'll have to overpay for sure though. |

Niño is going to be a star next year. 30 goals and an edgy forward.
Schenn could be had too |

Matthews>Richardson - Nucker101
Richardson>>>Matthews (and I like Matthews)... Apples & oranges though.
Day 3 is BY FAR my favourite... We have three 4ths and there are a ton of studs left out there. Also can't wait to see how effective the Seahawks UDFA pamphlet winds up being... Brilliant move by the best FO in sports. |

How are we getting a top 5 pick this year? I doubt we do worse next year so you've left me confused...

We won't, unless we trade up this draft or get a 2015 1st rd pick from a sh!tty team via trade.
The Sedins, the cornterstone of our 1st line for almost a decade, were drafted #2 and #3 overall. It's tough to imagine finding replacements for them via trade or UFA.
EDIT: It is possible of course to get a 1C without a top 5 pick. Kopitar was drafted 11th, Getzlaf 19th, Bergeron 45th, Kreici 63rd |

You mean five 1st round picks in the next 3 drafts? Trades have to be made... so at this point it's simply wishful thinking.
Anything is possible when considering where we finish over the next couple of years I guess. There are so many things that need to be addressed, it's hard to imagine it all coming together quickly.
New Gm
New coach
New division
Same scouting staff
Same core
Same owner
Same void of top end prospects
