I don't see it as incompetence at all. And the author mischaracterizes what happened, and also omits a few points, that are a factor. And what did they lose in Upshall? Not much. What was the end result? Was the team made better? That's how a move is judged.
And he has the Pronger trade in the wrong article. Poorly written in a number of ways.
