Any thoughts on Gagne being offered a tryout this year in camp? I know negotiations didn't go well with Homer last offseason but he still wanted to play. Maybe the year off helped. He could be a cheap veteran LW to play 3rd line minutes

the more I think about it, the less I like this idea (as I'm assuming that we won't get value for Vinny). Vinny will go on to succeed - i have a good feeling about that. I'd prefer to see it here than elsewhere, especially if the Flyers have to take a hit to move him. I'm leaning more towards moving B. Schenn for D help, etc or coming to grips with B. Schenn on the wing and sticking with it.

By saying this, by no means am I happy with it or endorsing the signing of Lecavalier in terms of $ or term.

The Flyers are going to have to do a little more then just make room at 2C for Lecavalier, then just trading B Schenn. Has to be sorrounded by the right mix of wingers.

No one is giving up anything significant for VL. Flyers will likely need to sweeten the deal just to have another team take him off their hands.
- PhillySportsGuy

I think you're underestimating how desperate some teams are for scoring centers. If we could get a 2015 2nd to replace the one we gave to NYI I'd call that significant.

This was a bad year for VL, but I don't think we're going to see a huge upswing in ability. He's had injury problems for 4 years now. Saying "When Vinny gets healthy…" Isn't really a likely thing.

I would call that very significant. I would move VL for nothing and eat $500k for each of his remaining seasons.

I think there is a bit of a double standard with Akeson. If he was a first round pick, he would be in the lineup. There are a few players on this team who offer very little outside of a few things. I won't get into specific names, but I think we knew who they are.
- PhillySportsGuy

that was my point with the briere comment a few posts back. most players are great in a couple of ways, and very generic otherwise. and yet small, undersized scoring players like briere and st. louis become stars in the nhl. msl ripped it up at vermont, and set all kinds of records - and he was a throw away until finally getting a shot with calgary. similar, but different with tim thomas, who was msl's teammate. he toiled in europe before getting a legit nhl shot. we don't know until we know. you know?

There were a couple stories a few months ago (Jan/Feb?) that he was still interested in playing... Was thinking tryout could be a possibility based on who gets moved and what the younger players show in camp. Could be a cheap veteran for bottom 6 minutes and he's a wing.

that's fair and likely. i'm hoping, however, that he had a fire lit under his ass and manages to make it work here. if they move him, you know, you just know, that he'll go on to have a monster year, scoring 3 goals against the Flyers every time he plays them until he retires.

So then what if Nashville offers Del Zotto who is a RFA they have to sign and a 3rd for Vinny and we eat some salray. Would you do it. There are already rumors about Nashville looking his way since Lavy was the one who recruited him.

So, if ive got this straight....if the flyers can get all the right players and they can all play great we have a chance at winning the cup? Wow. Great stuff. Id also like to add, if we can score more goals then the other team we have a good chance of winning games too.

maybe they both stay put. vinny heals and contributes, and schenn takes the next step. he's so young, and still has shown the ability to score at this level.

This requires context. Snce 2010, the two longest stretches of games he missed were stretches of 15 and 18 games. Both were due to broken bones in his RH. That kind of injury has zero to do with age, and can happen to any player. He missed 12 games total to a LBI, which is not a big deal. He missed 9 games due to the fractured back, which could be worrisome if it becomes chronic, which I don't know to be the case. So other then the back, not much to be concerned about going forward injury wise.
