It would make more sense to buyout Richards. He's signed through 2020 and he's already 34. Nash is only 29 and signed for 4 more years. His cap hit is high, but he can still play.

Yeah they have both. Buyout on Richards would make the most sense, as stated above. Although the booing of Nash last night might make a buyout on him more fan favorable

Very unlikely. Nash is tradable. He won't net a huge return, but there are plenty of teams that would take him.

Buying out Richards makes a ton of sense. The Rangers have $54M committed to 15 players. They have guys like Zuc, Moore, Brassard and Kreider as rfas

I didn't see the game.
The fans at MSG were letting Nash have it?
Yow.

I didn't see it either, saw this quote on nhl.com:

"It's tough, but I understand where they're coming from. I have to take ownership of those plays. It doesn't matter what you do all year, it matters what you do in the playoffs when things count. Obviously I've been struggling."

Pronger also struggled quite a bit (on and off ice) in his early days in Hartford and got booed during a real tough first year in St. Louis. Success in the NHL took time.

You are right about offensive pedigree but there are also players like Chara who were late-bloomers.

- bmeltzer

Chara, and to a lesser extent Weber and McDonagh, were pretty crazy outliers though.

PPG junior/college production doesn't even guarantee offensive success at the NHL level (see: Luke Richardson, Chris Therien, etc)... but in all but a few cases, it's pretty much been a prerequisite for NHL production.
