It's all about not losing Hextall to another team, and just pushing up the timeline a little.

On the Pens shorti, McDonagh quit on the backcheck.

I despise both but since my wife is a rangers fan we promised each other we would root for whoever won... Needless to say I hate the pens more anyways

They didn't have to grant Hextall permission to leave, and Holmgren didn't sound like he was going anywhere last week, to the degree where some folks flat-out stated that Holmgren wasn't going anywhere.

Snider wanted something different. It's that simple.

disgusting "effort" from him on that play. the only thing more infuriating to a goalie than your own man putting the puck in behind you is a play like that after you make a save on a breakaway (even though csp never touched the initial shot), only to have a trailer bang in the puck.

There's bad

There's worse

There's THE WORST

There's the Holocaust
Then 911 jokes
Then ALL THE WAY down here is the Rangers powerplay

What are you talking about? He was still playing at a very high level. He had the back injury then the concussion. Without the concussion, I think he's still an all star level player for at least 2-3 more years.
- PhillySportsGuy

He was still very good, but his mobility was really starting to leave him. Just in his time as a Flyer, he had lost a step or two... forced him to be much more conservative defensively, and a little less assertive in the neutral and ozone.

The Flyers aren't an Organization that is going to stand in the way of a guy progressing his career. This was about Hextall, and not losing him. It was inevitable that he was eventually going to get the job. Reading all the interviews, seems it was more Holmgren's idea, as it was Snider's. Holmgren is not GM anymore because of job performance. If Hextall wasn't brought back, Holmgren would still be the GM.

A player with his hockey sense, his ability to read plays, and handle and move the puck. He was still a top defenseman and a game changer for a team. Pronger wasn't about skating. He was about guile, intensity, physicality, and the ability to be an impact player all over the ice. 12 points in 13 games before the injury. That's less assertive in the ozone?

pronger might not single handedly provide the mobile aspect right now. but still, so much of his game wasnt exactly flying it up the ice. i still think hed be damn decent right now.

He'd still be a top defenseman. And he'd still would be able to elevate the Flyers to a top team, in my opinion. It's a shame. Not the way you want to see a great player's career end.

You must be the old guard. I don't know how you can root for the penguins over the rangers with these groups of players/coaches/fans

Penguins make me throw up a little bit everytime I see them, while I'm very indifferent to the rangers squad

Go rangers!

I have said the Pens are probably their biggest rival these days, but growing up the Rags were always my most hated.

i am openly hoping the Pens take this in 5.
