i mean, if you want to get technical, half the league is actually below average

what objectively worries me about hartnell, is that he was typically a player who was still making a contribution with his presence even if he wasnt scoring goals. i.e that hit that let to amacs goal. goal scorers, other than the really elite ones, tend to be streaky. so i wouldnt condemn him for that.

but he just doesnt consistently do those things that made him a valuable player outside of scoring.

that's really more of what i'm talking about. he puts up his points consistently, but in those big games, when you want him helping to set a tone, and make space for other guys to do their voodoo, he's disappeared. i want to be able to count on him.

i think over half the league is average - meaning they could be replaced with quality ahl players and it wouldn't be any different.

Oh no way... Rinaldo and Rosehill are like head and shoulders above those scrubs.

i feel badly for DP...really do. sure he'll end up with most of that money spread out over another 15 years, but i'm sure he'd rather be a #1 in the nhl, living the life.

im not a huge fan of the vast majority of fighting in the game. but my god. when he challenged brent johnson

Maybe not half, maybe a third. I'd agree that half the NHL could be replaced in short order, but it's probably a 1-2 year adjustment period.

i remember brent johnson for 2 things. getting shelled 8-1 against the flyers when he was a cap, and hammering DP.

i'm just throwing a number out there...my point was a significant amount of players could be replaced with "lesser" talent, and nobody would miss them or think the game had gotten worse.

it was incredible. not a fan to see someone get injured at all, and i wish he wouldve gotten a chance to play. but he always struck me as a douche, and he got about as clocked as you can get.

Just chiming in now... Big day! Congratulations Ron, I appreciate all the work homer did, but I really think Hexy can lead us to the cup as Gm.

Great move and fantastic day for the Flyers!

I really like what I hear from Hexy. Rely more on the draft, get better at drafting in the middle rounds and BE PATIENT

i think he was a bit cocky - #1 pick, huge contract, goalie - i get it. he always got lit up against the flyers. i wonder if he'll stay in the game somehow...haven't heard anything about him at all.

"DiPietro is summoned from AHL Chicago for the third time, with a send-off from goaltending partner Wendell Young who tells SI's Michael Farber that DiPietro will need two airline seats -- one in coach for his body, the other in first class for his ego."
