I agree.

I think the timing is due to the Flyers getting calls from orgs looking for GMs to interview Hextall for the role. This move was already in the works anyway.

As for the derpy "Same old, same old" opinions that are already coming out, we don't know what type of GM Hextall will be until he does some actual GM stuff.

Absolutely -- I learned my lesson from running off at the mouth when Chief got promoted.

Unless somebody's polishing a crystal ball, nobody has any clue what Hextall will or won't do.

#Flyers have called a press conference for 11:30am to promote Ron Hextall to GM and Paul Holmgren to president.

im okay with this but why does everyone give hexxy credit for the kings, he was not the gm there, he was an assistant
- mydoglicks

Don't think people are giving him credit, more so he will bring in idea's and perhaps follow the Kings blue print a bit more which has been pretty successful for L.A.

Strictly looking at Hextall's resume, he's been a scout, assistant GM in ANOTHER organization (apparently, everyone's gold standard is someone else's organization), and an assistant GM here. He's worked his way up through the Front office ranks. This isn't like elevating Bobby Clarke from the ice straight into the GM chair.

If Hextall wasn't going to be a GM here, it was going to be elsewhere.

That made me LOL

- AllInForFlyers

Yes, not only bring them in but keep them stacked deep. All kidding aside, there comes a point where they need to parlay a strength in one area into getting assets to satisfy a need.

So it will be a classic over-payment situation, right?

Agree. Everyone always wants the Flyers to go outside the organization and people don't realize that is what Hextall was. They just assume that since he was a flyer it will be same old, same old. I know he did a lot of scouting with the Kings and was very tied in with Lambardi.

I can't wait to see the first move he makes and peoples reactions. Good or Bad.

For some people, nothing short of Ed Snider dropping dead or selling the team will make them happy.

the reason for today's press conference is no big mystery. However, I will wait until it is done to analyze and comment. I am not yet sure if there will be any other announcements of front office changes.
- bmeltzer

Hextall's first move will be to bring back Carter and Richards even before their Stanley Cup run is over.

On a serious note, this is an exciting day if he becomes GM. For one thing he IS my favorite Flyer of all time.

Again, absolutely agree -- he earned this shot. I have zero problems with his qualifications.

They might be waiting a long time for that one -- Big Ed looked pretty damn healthy the other day.

my theory is we might see some of these NMC contracts(Harntell,Vinny) moved. Makes it easier to push those guys out of here. Changes in a seat like that in the corporate world are always followed with a ax.

So to be clear, we are not going to talk about Corsi today.

Is that right?

I still dont know what I think of Chief. This I do know....its more of the same from the flyers, promoting from within, views from within.

For better or worse the Flyers like to "make a splash". Will that continue? Will Hexy change the culture or was he hired because he won't. The Old Man already said that the Ghost has "got to be here". Does he get thrown in ready or not? I know how Homer would handle it.

Cool to see Hextall as your GM. As much as i hated the Flyers over the years, i always liked watching him compete. It's hard to embody the Flyers mentality as a goalie, but Hextall did it with style.

Could be. The coach Lecavalier signed to play for is now in Nashville, and the GM who signed him is now club president.

Anyone know if Hextall had any words of praise / problems re: Brayden Schenn in their shared time in LA?

They've always been that way, and I don't know that it's right or wrong. If the only metric is Stanley Cups, then hey, I get that hasn't been accomplished. Trust me, I get that.

But they're not the only franchise that operates that way, or wants to. The NHL is notorious for this stuff.

Look at Vancouver now, with Trevor Linden. Luc Robitaille's got a high-ranking position with the Kings. Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic with the Avalanche.

The Flyers are one of the top 6-8 franchises in the NHL. It's just ridiculous luck that they haven't won a Cup since the 1970s.

Do we know how long the iris held possession of the tear? Or was it held primarily by the cornea?

Did it attack the cheekbone from the left side, or the right?

This is important information.
