Man...it would be nice to finally not have to go trawling through other teams' rosters, begging for players because we can't develop our own.

If they can get even a few of these kids to reach their full potential with the Flyers...it'd be an amazing thing and could really make this franchise something to deal with, since they've already done some of the painful part by drafting them.

They're short on scoring wingers, but they truly do have defensive prospects and a goalie prospect, to boot.

- AllInForFlyers

I was really dreading this offseason... with how they might mismanage the development of the kids, with how they might dump another overpaid roadblock in front of Akeson and Raffl, how they might trade a number of the kids off for a 30+ dman, and how they might finally toss Gus into the bin altogether.

With Homer out, and Hexy apparently bringing a sea change in the organizational mindset, I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about the team's prospects short and long term now.

I despise the Rangers and have my whole life. Last time I cared about any Rangers player Giacomin was their goalie.

The boys are back in town... Actually they never left.
Wash, rinse, repeat. Snider still calling all the shots. People lapping it up like its genius... At least they finally found a (frank)ing goalie.

- JoeRussomanno

I'm lapping it up because I choose to be optimistic. My only other choice is to find another team.

Huh? If you're a Flyers fan you have to hate the Rangers. It's in the handbook.

Ha! We'll find out soon enough, with Ghostisbehere.
- AllInForFlyers

You mean because whether he's ready to play in the NHL or not the best thing for him would be to play the season in the AHL.

May be he'll finally see the light and send Couturier down with him.

yeah.

but i mean he could be sporting a career .910 save percentage then, and it wouldnt make him any less of the stud goalie he is.

i do.

but again, its not that i think these goalies arent good. theyre two of the best ever.

but (and not to rile up the stat based wars that go on in here) i just think that stats for goalies are a very bad indicator.

Hextall certainly said all the right things today. I recall Holmgren saying similar things, back in 2007. I hope that Hextall is left alone, that Snider avoids meddling or making public pronouncements on player personnel decisions, and let's Hextall pursue his stated vision.

I'm excited that he's embracing analytics, if only because it's smart for teams to use every tool in the box to scout players and manage assets. Even if they're not the driving force, they can be useful tools in helping make decisions.

As far as the other stuff I liked was the commitment to youth, and building through the draft. Again, I hope pressure to win now doesn't lead to trading away 2nd & 3rd round picks away for 4th & 5th defensemen at every deadline.

Bill do you think Ron will be more status Quo, or is he really going to do what he said hes going to do.

The thing about it is that you have to pay so much now for youngish defensemen, even more for ones who can actually play...the price is so inflated, you almost can't win if you don't develop your own.

I thought Homer's tenure was an overall positive -- I realize others disagree with that -- but if there was something I would've liked to have seen him do more, it would be give more kids who have played on the farm a shot.

They wouldn't all pan out, because that's the way it goes. But some of them would. Sometimes, you have to let the sixth-round picks play, make mistakes, instead of chasing the next shiny thing.

You'll never get a Dan Boyle if you never let them play.
