I think they should just bite the bullet and buy Vinny out.

I don't like the way they've handled B Schenn. He's been shuttled between wing and center his entire career. It's happened multiple times in each season. They've, also, put guys like Briere and VL on his line when its obvious those guys aren't good fits for this team or that line.

People complain about B Schenn, but it's hard to break into the NHL and become a high level player when you're being switched around and forced to play with guys who don't fit.

It's been a residual effect onto Couts as well. Berube has had to overuse Couts in defensive situations because he has no faith in his 2nd or 4th line. It's difficult for Couts to think offense when he's constantly out against other top lines while starting in the defensive zone.

That being said, I do like the forwards and I don't think they need a "culture change" because the GM picks too many "bully" type players. I don't see anyone complaining about Simmonds style of play and he's the closest thing to a "bully" type player.

- PhillySportsGuy

I think there are valid points here. I don't care which position Schenn plays, I think he can play either effectively. And I think he's better suited to the Wing then Center. But regardless, pick one position, and stop moving him around. Secondly, Couturier needs to be used as more then just a defensive checking center in a checking role. Need to develop his offensive game, and to do that, needs to be put in some more favorable positions.
The Flyers have good players. It's a question of how they fit and mesh together. All this team needs is a tweak, and a couple of more moves, to be where they need to be. Along with the young player maturing.

Ha! Yeah. Sometimes...yeah.

Man. I really wanted that to work. But his skating...it just won't work.

If you look at many of Homer's moves in isolation, they're not bad moves. What he got in return for Richie/Carts/Forsberg was solid. Carle, Mason and Coburn were good reclamations. Chris Pronger got them to within 2W's of the Cup. Adding Ville Leino and subsequently not re-signing him was prescient.

But if you step back, you can't help but notice that he's been prone to making the "big mistake", and is often left chasing his losses with subsequent moves. They're also guilty of chronic questionable cap management, constant shifts in team philosophy, and general impatience/going for shortcuts.

With all the money, the solid prospects, and the capable coaches that have come through here, it's almost unfathomable that they haven't gotten closer than '2W's away' over the past decade+, while other teams have managed to seemingly accomplish a whole lot more with a whole lot less at their disposal.

- Tomahawk

Disagreeing with how the Flyers manage the Cap, does not make it mismanagement. The Flyers manage the cap very well in my opinion.

I think they should just bite the bullet and buy Vinny out. That way, the player chooses where he goes, which could/should make him happy. The Flyers eat the money, but don't take a bad contract in return and don't ship an asset with him to make a prospective deal work.

It sucks, for the cap hit. I would NEVER have thought I'd be saying that one year into this.

But moving a 22-year-old Brayden Schenn to accommodate 34-year-old Vincent Lecavalier -- that's just not something that should be done. It's laughable on every single level that I can think of. Every single one.

Because we could all be sitting here at this time next season reading the same thing about Vinny. And I like the guy as a player, admire his character.

But he's not getting faster. He's not going to become a better defensive player. If he could still skate, then I'd be willing to consider any number of options. But if you can't skate at the NHL average, there's no point. It only gets worse from here.

- AllInForFlyers

His skating was hindered by the injury last year. If he can get healthy, he can get back to where he needs to be.
The Flyers should not buyout Lecavalier, and they definitely should not move Schenn to accomodate Lecavalier, in my opinion.

BTW, who else is a lot more impressed with G getting nominated for the Lindsay than with the Hart nomination? The fact his fellow players think he's one of the top three players is pretty amazing.

At least they had the good sense not to include Pierre, but EA lost me a couple years back.

Maybe I'll try it again once I get my PS4. I don't know.

I was always more impressed by the Pearson - I'm not fond of the renaming of these trophies - because it was by the players.

I think it's tremendous.

I've said this at various points this year, because I feel it is true: There is a segment of Philadelphia fandom who has no idea when they have a good thing.

Giroux is clearly a Top 10 player in the NHL. For certain stretches, he's a Top 3 player.

On some days, he is the best player in the world.

It's truly that simple. But there are some people who were dead-serious about "Fraude Giroux."

What can you even say?

Imagine if the flyers could get their hands on Myers, sign Niskanen and get Timonen back on the cheap....

Myers (5.5) / Niskanen (7)
Timo (4) / Coburn (4.5)
Mac (5) / Streit (5)

Expensive but that looks awesome lol. Just a pipe dream. Obviously never going to happen.

- FlyersSteve118

Unfortunately non of those guys are big minute, stud D-men. This is what the Flyers have lacked since Pronger went down, and even when they had him healthy he was in his decline. Who was the last, young, stud D-man the Flyers had?

Look at the teams still playing and who their top D man is. Granted, McDonagh is messed up right now and having a brutal playoffs, but otherwise you have Chara, Keith/Seabrook, Doughty, Suter, Letang (* stroke), Subban and Fowler. Who is that guy for the Flyers? It's not Kimmo or Streit. Might be Ghost in 2-3 years.

We all know that team D is what wins championships now. And look at the most recent Cup winners and who their stud D-man was. It's hard to go against this. Flyers put up the goals this past season (2.84 GF/game, 8th). They have a good goalie now, but still middled in the GA dept. (2.77 GA/game, 20th).

I got '13 after a few years of not buying it, started the 'Be a Player' in the Q and got through the first season when the freezing issues started for me in the playoffs. That kinda took the bite out of it for me.

I'm actually thinking of going back to the PS2 2002 game. You could at least play teammates in season mode back then, even if you had to be in the same room.

This lecavalier mess is the epitome of flyer front office problems...we got they amnesty briere, they bring in lecavalier, albeit a cheaper deal but still pricey and long for a piece that doesnt fit and is basically washed up. They got rid of richards and carter then go an overpay for luke schenn. Gave up on Bob, got bryzgalov.

Im not holding my breath for this organization to take the next step until theres a major culture change.

If theres one good thing to come out of Homer's tenure, he traded a young goalie for another goalie.

I know Snider is all about winning the cup, but there is significant financial incentive to make the playoffs.

I'm not saying the Flyers need to go tank mode. I just think they need to view this team as one building towards a cup rather than trying to contend for one now. Any significant move made should be made for the future of the franchise. If it helps the current team as well then thats great too.

- PhillySportsGuy

he won 2 cups in the 70s, he is happy
