Wow, you guys wouldn't know an insider obviously if you tripped over him. I am completely inside this silly organization in various layers and you know what? The more you find out about the upper stratus of the org, the less interested in the team you become.

This is a team that has drafted only four or five really good players in the last 25 years. Wendel Clark, Vincent Damphousse, Alexanders Steen, Tukku Rask and now Morgan Rielly.

They essentially blew it with the previous four, after stealing Sundin for Clark in the first place, they completely bungled things by trading back for Clark and losing all kinds of assets? Why? Because Clark was married to someone in MLSE and they wanted Clark and the wife back in Toronto. Who does that?

Damphousse, was traded for coal, Rask was traded for one of the worst goalies in Leaf history, and Steen was traded for a third liner.

Now they are beating on Kadri, who was coerced into putting on twenty pounds his first season with the Leafs by the joke a trainer that the Leafs employ.

And of course they are jerking around Jake Gardiner who many still consider to have even more physical potential, than even Rielly himself.

Its a poopshow, and now they hire Brendan Shanahan, a la Ken Dryden who never shed a drop of blood or sweat in a Leaf uniform.

However, if they suddenly develop a brain and keep R.C. for this year, it does indicate that Lieweke and Shannahan understand the necessity of getting a top two pick next year.

Agree
Only reason for keeping him

kinda makes sense... however with all of Lewieke's bravado and "being mad" comments, and with the onboarding of Shanaban.. optically they simply can't not make some major change(s)...

so here's my theory....

1) Shanaban was really brought in for one reason and one reason only - to be the bad cop to Nonis cuddly good cop.... and to deal with Dion - behind closed doors. Instructions on how to be a leader (notice I didn't say Captain).... and to squash the country club... hopefully Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber will never be heard in that locker room again

2) probably can't move Dion... so Lupul goes.

3) if they can't move Gardiner at the draft... then Gunnarson goes - too soft, too weak on the puck - if Gardiner stays he gets a limited bridge deal - maybe 2.2 for 2 years - if Gardiner goes, then Brennan gets the open "rover" spot

4) big choice to make... offer Bolland reasonable money ($3.5/2 years) to allow him to prove himself (or not), promote Holland and move Kadri

5) McClement gets 2.2 - 2.5 for 3 years - which he would be an idiot not to take
6) Bodie gets .8 - 1.0 for 2 years - which he would also be an idiot not to take

7) sadly - I think Reimer is done in Toronto - particularly if RandyC stays. If Randy is let go, I can Reimer sticking for one more year...

I think we're at the point where Reimer must be moved. And he probably wants-out.

I can't see him returning under any circumstance. The Leafs can use the cap room too. He's pricey for a back-up.
