disagree

peggy did not hire murray, nolan and patrick to tank for 2 more years, if that was the goal darcy and rr was doing fine

- homiedclown

Next year we are bottom 5, year after we start to compete IMO

I still can't understand why some here think they will tank next year, it's not going to happen. I'm not saying a playoff team but they won't just tank.

This makes sense. I'd also venture to say what most logical individuals expect.

What assets? Out of Coho, Foligno, Pysyk, Hoff, Staff, the only one I'd call an Asset is Pysyk. Coho is on the line.
- JCSabs06

the team lacks elite talent up front

staal, ovechkin gives them that
plus the second pick in the draft

when the sabres were good in the post lockout years, briere was fringe elite talent
vanek had his best year on the third line
pommer and roy were complementary players

They aren't going to be any better than this years team....

Even if we somehow bring in a goal scoring FA (not sure there are any this offseason). We would still be starting off worse than last years team. At least we had Miller to keep us in games and Vanek to score every now and then.

Without elite scoring talent, the rest of the team will suffer immensely. Without a true NHL goalie to keep the puck out of the net, the players will realize that this is going to be a long poopty year.

Our only chance is if teams start playing their 3rd string goalies against us instead of their backups like this past season.

We were also rolling 4 lines of the fastest team in hockey.

Murray-knows how to draft

Patrick-knows how to build around players that are drafted

Nolan-needs to change the culture around the FNC

It's not a one draft process. It will take at least 2 years worth of drafting high and drafting well.

You really believe that? you really think Nolan let's that happen? how can these young players learn to be positive with all the negitive that losing brings. It won't happen.

I do not think a fan is illogical to expect the team to make moves to get better for the 2014-15 season

Even Murray said himself they arent going to chase players to try and get better quicker, they want to do it right.

The trade of McNabb (22YO) for Fasching (18 YO) tells me that they will be pretty patient.

I just dont see a 1 year turnaround.

I think out of AO and E Staal I would take AO. I know his contract is bad and Staal's isn't much better money wise but, AO would take alot to trade for. I'm sure Staal would cost alot as well, just doubt that the Canes move him after trading for his brother.

how do you figure?

the d is stacked already
the second/third liners are already in the pipeline
top end talent is needed and maybe a goalie

the team has never been this stacked with descent prospects

It won't be a 1 year turnaround and it shouldn't be however, statring next year with adding a player or 2 will be a step in the right direction.

I think Nolan will do his best to inspire hard work and a never say die attitude. I don't think he will magically turn this group into a contender over 82 games.

Latvia "succeeded" in a short tourney. I'm sure Nolan will get about 20 games out of this group that exceed expectations. I'll say we are lucky if we tickle the underside of .500 next year.

Spector posted an article that someone had written about how the Flyers want a replacement for Timonen and how B Schenn might be a trade piece. Anyone think Ehrhoff would be that player?

AO gives you one of the 2 best goal scorers in the game and pretty much ensures your a top 8 pp team for the next 5 years

IMO McNabb is nothing more than a 5-6 guy anyway... So he basically moved 2 2nds for him.. He must have really liked him but the Sens refused to draft him

You get top end talent at the top of the draft and one top end talented player isn't going to turn this team around.

The Sabres were the lowest scoring team in the league by 30+ goals. Adding one 40 goal scorer isnt going to make them a good hockey team. You need more top end talent around said player.

Case in point. The Penguins were awful when they had Crosby in his first year. This team needs more than Crosby, a lot more.

You are very bitter aren't you, maybe some just don't agree with it. Can't do anything about it but still don't agree with it.

For the record, I only mentioned bringing in a couple vet players to start off in the right direction that's all. Lighten up.

- SABRES 89

Vets that will cost assets . Need to build up assets before you start trading them all . Time to go after any vets is after next season. You calling some one better is priceless. Not bitter at all here just realistic.
