Problem is that you're not going to convince one of those guys to take just 2 years to go to a non-contender unless you plan on offering them like 8 million per to Moulson or 10 million per to Vanek for 2 years or something stupid like that.
Moulson or Cammy would rather get 6 per with a full NTC and 4-6 years of a guaranteed high salary. Vanek/Statsny the same, except they'll get even more money with the same long term. - Nucker101
Last year I would have said yes. This upcoming season I don't think so. |

My players on the block. Though keep in mind I would make all available for the right price.
Edler, Burrows, Garrison, Hansen trade. Booth buyout. Best value without destroying the team. If Kesler truly wants out he can go, I will be sad but Nucker will be on suicide watch. - thundachunk
Kesler should be the first to go IMO
Biggest return
Selfishness on and off the ice
Chemistry issues
Injury issues

Like I told Nucker, when I suggested Moulsen I opened my mouth without thinking. I really want to get younger faster. I have patience for the growing pains. |

I just did a line up without those players I had on my list. There was lots of youth and the team didn't look that bad. Let them grow. |

Yes. Though I think the GM and Linden would have trouble convincing them. |

I think a few teams became exposed this year about being good but no depth.
Ana SJ Det NYR TB any one of those teams could use the twins while some of the stars are in their prime. I think if the twins played in TB they could be off to the second round Dallas also .
I don't expect it to happen but the Sedins on those teams as the secondary lines might be something to look at . |

Gallagher writing about Linden
http://www.theprovince.co...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter - VANTEL
Thanks for posting. I don't really agree with Tony G that Linden "better get moving" towards a more permanent set-up (coach/GM). There might be a rush where the media is concerned because no news makes it exceedingly difficult to write new articles, but apart from general frustration from the fans there is not much to lose (especially with the refund policy they've implemented on season tickets) and much to gain by taking his time on selecting the next GM.
I'm almost positive at this point that his main targets are AGMs still involved in the playoffs, so that will take some time. And regarding the coaching situation, firing Torts now vs in a month accomplishes nothing (apart from the fans knowing Torts won't be here) unless another coach suddenly becomes available that Linden can't resist picking up. |

I think a lot of people on the board (including myself) feel that we shouldn't buy-out Booth. The two main reasons being, he only has one year left on his contract and, more importantly, it finally looked like he was healthy and playing well (one of the Canucks best players down the stretch).
Oh and the third reason for keeping Booth - he'll keep B.C's moose community in line |

If that's Linden's only candidate then I agree. If he's open to several candidates then it might get tricky.
For example, say PHI lose tomorrow and Hextall is available for interview. Do you interview him now and wait potentially for several weeks or even a month until you can interview Benning and let Hextall possibly get snatched up by another team? |

In a respectful manner, I ask you, in what form do you see this experienced GT? Starter or backup?
I would only like to see it be a backup. I don't think that Lack was our problem. I say let him play with an experienced GT backing up as insurance. And if that's the case, who would you like to see backup? - chompsey
I just want to see someone reliable brought in for several reasons and none of them are because I dont have faith in Lack. On the other hand I don't have faith in Markstrom for this next season. He's a work in progress just getting him to the NHL.
I think we can agree we have no idea how many games Lack can play effectively. It could be 30, it could be 60 we just don't know. The back up has to be able to be good with just a few games and even better if he has to fill in more often. Another reason I don't want to rely on Markstrom is in case Lack is injured. The back up may have to play consecutive games for a month or longer.
I think it reasonable to expect a back up signed that can split the season if need be(worse case scenario). Markstrom isnt there yet.

I think Torts will be given another year with the new GM. Here is why.
Any new GM coming in will see 3 areas of definite improvement.
1. Coaching style does not match the team
2. Team is getting old and too many NTC
3. Cupboards are bare
To fix 2 and 3 we need Torts here. There are too many underachieving players on this team with NTC that would rather fossilize here then move to another team, however Torts is a good way to ensure some of these guys would rather uproot and replant in another market. This is the only sure fire way to move some of the NTC. KB will get a roster player and a pick. Hammer will get us a roster player, prospect and a pick. Edler will get us a pick or a roster player, Burrows will get us a roster player, Kesler will get us a roster player, prospect ad pick.
Requirements 2 and 3 will be met by moving some of the NTC out and the coach to convince players that they would rather play in Peg or Edm then Vancouver is Torts. Sorry Marwood but I don't see Torts moving this year. - Linden_4_Capt
see calgary for the previous 4 yrs...going to have to move kesler or the sedins to escape that future |

Gallagher writing about Linden
http://www.theprovince.co...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter - VANTEL
I hope Linden isn't just BS'ing about looking at other organization across various sports and trying to get an insight on what makes them successful. I do agree with Tony G that it seemed like Gillis seemingly came in more prepared with a plan in place that he was set to go through with during his first couple of years at least.
It's weird that we're not hearing about Gm candidates being interviewed, either nothing's being leaked or all(or Linden's only) candidates are all in the playoffs still.
I do remember hearing names like Lawton/Gillis being thrown around before they were hired so you gotta wonder if interviews have even begun to take place with anyone who's not in the NHL playoffs.
I have no issue with Linden's targets only being part of successful playoff teams, but I really hope it's more than just 1 or 2 guys that he's considering and going to be interviewing. |

Montreal or Vancouver for him most likely. Don't see him waiving to play anywhere else to be honest. |

Gallagher makes a good point though, if Linden was looking for advice how much would Neely give to an opposing franchise? It had to be for Benning, probably to ask what role he played for the Bruins and such. |
