You had me up until the last part. Moulson turns 31 in November, he's gonna demand 5 years at 6 million per with a NTC. He'd quickly become part of the "stale" core that we're all tired of. - Nucker101
Yeah no . Short term.I don't want a long term contract for rentals. |

This UFA class sucks, all of the top guys will get big term, money and NTC's. I'd pass on everyone, go bargain hunting if there's some quality players available(who can provide leadership and help the team) for good value and short term, but otherwise just stand pat and give the kids a shot. |

I don't think so , I think the GMs have seen (David Clarkson ,Ryan Clowe ) that paying big money for the UFAs is dumb. |

Vanek, Moulson, Cammy, etc will still get more than what they're worth. I just don't like spending big bucks on guys who are already 30+. Stastny is the youngest of the top forwards, but he's American and as a center will get some big time money in the open market.
Rate just give Kassian/Jensen full time top 6 roles next year.
Evander Kane if available should be the young star forward that we target. He'll actually still be in his prime when this team is (hopefully) on the upswing again in the future. |

And those guys were still signed after those GM's saw the Leino/Redden, etc contracts in the past. Desperate GM's will always overspend, especially since you're not giving up anything other than cap space and your owner's money. |

Youth in the line up is imperative. All Tortarellla talked about at the beginning and the end of the season was having youth in the line up but never even kept any in throughout the season. Quite hypocritical imo. Especially considering I feel he would do better with a younger group. Hell Jensen never made the line up once until the season was 90% over.(possibly our one of our best towards the end) I thought he looked good all training camp and then tapered off near the end of it but was still the most consistent for the young guys. Never got a shot. |

Yeah, this team is far from a lock to even make the playoffs next year so why spend big money on an older UFA. This won't be popular, but I'd deal Kesler for futures and suck another year since 2015 is a stacked draft class. After that maybe sign a good UFA or 2 next summer if the young kids are showing promise and need some help to make a push.
Everyone's afraid of becoming the Oilers, but Edmonton had a way worse veteran group compared to the Canucks and they have to overpay to get players to play in that city. |

Agreed and with a huge jump in cap this season, paired with many teams still have buyouts remaining. Gonna be a lot of stupid money this summer. |
