Speaking of Head coaches if San Jose is bounced there is a good chance Todd McLellan gets fired. I think he is the best fit for this team. Coaches speed and possession game. Give chance to younger players and lets them develop. Lets all pray (dark lord or Jeabus) for Kings win. |

Well, obviously the Jesus thing wasn't working so I made the logical conclusion that the Lord of the Underworld was my next best option. We'll give it a week if necessary then I'm on to Voodoo Magic. - Marwood
We all should chip in and hire an Aerial Banner Sky Ad. Maybe that would get Linden's attention. |

I am hoping Jim Benning is coming to town. As for coaches I have no idea who would help. That is the most scary IMO - TJTD
Someone (I forget who, sorry) mentioned Jeff Blashill yesterday... I think he'd fit the bill. |

• Philadelphia has been overjoyed with their acquisition of Andrew MacDonald from the Islanders—a guy who's making the league minimum this year but has now been extended for six seasons at $30 million. That's a case of going back to the well for a second time, too, after the Flyers plucked Mark Streit from the Islanders' blue line last year and signed him to a new deal worth more than $5 million a season.
they may be overjoyed to have them, but they've also severely overpaid for a pp specialist and 3rd pairing defenseman, and andrew macdonald is a turnover machine who is best served as a 5th/6th defenseman.
it's no surprise that as soon as Macdonald was traded that the Isles defense got better, the goals against went down and our record was over 500. Advanced stats show every single Isles defender was better not paired with Andrew Macdonald and that when paired with him their numbers took a massive dive.
Philly isn't a team anyone wants to model themselves after. There's no stability there. No money for a top notch goaltender, and they end up signing guys to long term big dollar deals and then try to move them 1-2 years afterwards.
I actually enjoyed watching Macdonald in this series, it makes me relax a little knowing he's gone.
***the Isles defense and goaltending suck, I'm well aware of it, but andrew macdonald was a major contributor to the problems***

A big no to Doug Armstrong.
All he managed to do was leverage that's team well constructed future on bad trades.
Found this beauty in the Blues thread post defeat:
"Hate to say I told you so... Actually, I really don't.
Miller stunk it up when he needed to shine the brightest on certain shots during big parts of games. A lot of soft goals. And like I said in February, Miller is not any better than Halak.
And Halak was another joke that your GM Doug Armstrong gave up a 1st round pick for just a few years back.
Now you lose another 1st round pick for Ryan Miller. Do you sign Miller? Who knows. But if you sign Ryan Miller prior to the draft...you lose ANOTHER 1st round pick. All for a guy who has proven for a decade that Ryan Miller does NOT shine bright in the NHL Playoffs.
Another 1st round pick in 2013 was given up for Jay Bum-meester. 0 points and a -1 in the playoffs for a guy that is paid $6.6 Million this year by your brilliant GM Doug Armstrong. A d-men in Jay that was suppose to be the 1A D-men with Pietrangelo. What a joke.
Your GM has more than cemented his legacy for the Blues. He is what I told you 5 years ago when you promoted him to GM during the 2009-2010 season...he has proven NOTHING. And traded a half of dozen of Jarmo's draft picks for Halak, Miller, Bouwmeester and other crap. Not to mention that since the 2010 draft when Jarmo drafted you Schwartz and Tarasenko and than Jarmo left...Armstrong has traded the Blues 1st round picks from 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016 picks away.
Your "brilliant GM" Doug Armstrong mortgaging off the future and trading assets for nothing substantial.
You can say what you want about me. You can defend Armstrong to the minute he leaves STL.
But the facts will never change. "Dougie/Armey" took an unbelivable core group and gutted the team. Doug Armstrong traded assets and also future 1st round picks for overpaid garbage who has NEVER proven themselves in the playoffs.
The thing that killed the Blues this round was Miller was not as solid as Crawford. And the Blues did not have the scoring depth like the Hawks did.
Enjoy watching Lars Eller, Carl Soderberg and Erik Johnson in the next round of the playoffs.
You should have Trusted In Jarmo and promoted Jarmo to GM like he was promised.
Karma.
And the Curse of Scotty Bowman lives on"

Interesting analysis, although seems a bit harsh to me. I don't see any comments about Hitchcock's culpability, either (I think he's suited to a short term situation only, as I believe the players seem to tune him out quite quickly - which was perhaps also a factor in these play-offs - there were rumblings about that from some of the pundits prior to the first round).
Frankly, I wasn't overly enthralled with the Blues in terms of them being cup contenders this year. I just didn't think they are a cup team and didn't really get the love they were getting.
That said, I would disagree, in that they do have have some great assets. I think their main need is a game breaker(s) like other cup teams of recent past. It looks like Tarasenko and Schwartz could very well be the answers to that shortfall (Oshie looks like a winner as well, and of course Backes, Steen, and Pietrangelo are not too shabby either)
But, yes, the biggest mistake, as noted, was getting Miller, thinking that he would return to form and that the change in scenery would jump-start some of the stagnation/frustration he felt in Buffalo. Perhaps if they had pulled this move off last year or the year before that, things would have panned out. But Miller is simply just not the same goalie he was. Additionally, I think he is more suited to the Eastern Conference, where goalies seem to get much more rubber thrown at them, than is the case in the West. St.Louis is a stingy team and, as has been pointed out, it's often difficult for goalies to make a transition from getting a lot of work to only seeing 20-25 shots a night
In any event, I think the Blues still have a decent core, but I think there certainly needs to be some change going forward (starting with Hitchcock). And to rid themselves of the unmitigated disasters that the Morrow, Roy, Pajjarvi additions ended up being (still shaking my head at the Perron trade) |

Sutter 3 rd goal - VANTEL
I mentioned a while back that the role he was put in when traded to the Pens was obviously more defensive-minded. Conversely, he was in more of an offensive situation in Carolina (he potted 20+ goals in his first full season with the Canes when he was just 21). With the Pens, there is just too much of a back-log of offensive players, so he doesn't get the same opportunities he did in Carolina. But he definitely makes use of the minutes he's given.
He's just getting into those 'break-out' years (25 currently) so it wouldn't surprise me that much if he managed to be a 50+ point player when all is said and done |

You certainly can't ever question their work ethic, tenacity, and heart. And they always seem to bring forth their best effort in the big games. I'd love to see Sutter get more offensive opportunities, as he seems to be one of those players that will accept and flourish in any role he's given. There is definitely some untapped potential there |

Crosby 0 goals time to trade him before his value plummets. Did he score in the Olympics?
Speaking of Ruusians , Dave Pratt asked /said OV was going to go play in the KHL this upcoming year.
He had a good argument with Bro Jake today also . Two biggest idiots on sports radio |
