The extra ice time has not been kind to Amac this series.
He does make Luke better but he has been pretty shaky I think.

I agree with Bill, Streit and Grossmann were the best most consistent pair before Nik went down.

Agreed. AMac is being relied upon too much. Gill skated 12 minutes yesterday, and that's just a complete waste of roster space.

The only problem is that we have a terrible track record with 2nd round picks...

See: 2007 NHL draft. Second round.

We moved up to take a d-man. Kevin Marshall.

Next d-man selected. PK Subban

I know, but over the last few years, they've gotten better.

You can't just discount guys like Ghost, Hagg and Vasiliev. They may never develop into anything, but they do hold value. Ghost could be a large piece in a deal for a top pairing dman.

Kimmo not being at his best has really stung.
The first PP relies a lot on him.
Now pucks sent his way are about 50/50 staying in or leaving the zone.

That one pass he let through his legs yesterday...What The F!?

Yup
Other then Jake and maybe Art Ross Akeson they are being outplayed soundly by the rangers.

Couts has been OK for a youngster.

Ghost, and then I'd say you'd have to go all the way back to Sharp and Seidenberg in 2001.

Sorry, but no way I'm letting our offense off the hook that easily.
- wolfhounds

I'm not letting them off the hook, but the difference in this series is the level of defenseman and goaltending. I'm pretty sure the Flyers would have won this series with the Rangers D and Lundqvist.

Probably dont even need Lundqvist with that D..... Lets be honest with ourselves.

Subban was bad, but '06 makes me want to tear my hair out. Three shots at any of Lucic/Petry/Kulemin/Enroth/Anisimov/McBain/Marchand and they come out with Nodl/Ratchuk/Bodrov.

Yup. Great setup. So Akeson and Gill had the two best scoring opportunities of the game for the Flyers. And Akeson had a lot of time to think about where to shoot instead of just...shooting. Sometimes the brain just gets in the way. Still, it was close.

Whats sad but somewhat encouraging is that even with how bad the Flyers played yesterday it was basically a one goal game. The Rangers are beatable. Flyers are beating themselves with such sloppy play.

The one yesterday where Akeson seemed to have all day, and then shot it wide?

Thats probably one where he wasn't accustomed to the NHL. In the AHL, he probably has time to pick his spot before the goalie gets over. In the NHL, that puck needs to be off his stick much faster.

Sure. But you can't blame our D for all the blocked shots the Rangers are getting. And nobody wanted Gill in the game yesterday, but it was either him or Gus and a smallish d-corps.

Imagine how good that draft could have been. That draft could have produced our top line.

Edit: Of all the times we condemn the Flyers for going after hulking forwards, they couldn't take Lucic.

This whole thing started because I said I would rather have Niskanen at fair market value than MacDonald at fair market value.

No doubt. I was surprised to see the Flyers outshot and won quite a few more faceoffs. If the PP didn't suck the life out of everything like some sad vampire, that game is maybe a lot more competitive than it seemed.

Yeah, like what the B's did. Marchand, Lucic, Kessel... one supremely good draft year can really strap a rocket on your chances to win for a long time.
