Money for nothing. - VANTEL
If PIT wanted to be rid of Fleury they wouldn't need to buy him out. He's got 1 year left at 5m. You seriously think if the guy was placed on waivers that no team in the NHL would pick him up? If Bryzgalov is getting regular looks in the NHL then Fleury definitely would be given a second shot. PIT's D sucks and their forwards (expect for J Staal, who's gone) can't defend all that well. |

Not sure how the trade makes that different. Depres at this point has more value then Markstrom. Who btw by definition is not a prospect - Bieksa#3
Pens have 7 forwards signed they need more. They have to go after UFAs or sign guys that have no impact.
They can not trade Fluery to any other team unless they take back a bad contract or give something up.
They can get a Free Agent goalie but as long as they have Fluery they have to wait unless they want to spend 11 Mil on two goalies.
Despres and Markstrom both a gamble. We need D they need a future goalie.
They can buy out Fluery bit then they need a goalie, a back up , and a 7 forwards. If they do the trade then they only need a goalie, no back up and 6 forwards. |

Bite your tongue. Kunitz is the best defensive player in the history of the sport. And his offensive process is unmatched. I have serious doubts whether Crosby and Malkin would be NHL players without the legend we call kunitz.
Pens fans and pens HB bloggers consider him more god, and less man. If Babe Ruth was 10x better then his talent in baseball wouldn't match Kunitz talent in hockey |

If no one picks up Fluerys 5 mil contract next year then it would be a cap hit of 4.1 'mil to send him down.
Would you pay 5 mil for Fluery ? |

Its only a one yr gamble. Lots of teams have worse starters then Fluery |

Why would any team looking for a starter offer to trade for Fluery at 5 mil when they could lock up a Miller Halak Hiller Nabokov Brodeur Thomas for around the same amount and lock them up for 4 years? |

Waivers was the discussion. A team looking for a stop gap between a prospect. Lots of teams hate the long term contract. Islabders? |

Even with Waivers a team is on the hook that picks him up for 5 mil. Why not take a run at Hiller at 5 mil 4 years
Thomas 3 mil one year
Broduer 3 mil one year
Miller 6 mil 4 years.
Makes no sense to go for a one year fix on a wildcard goalie. |

If I'm a team not headed to the playoffs in need of a decent regular season goalie, yes I might. If I'm a team that plays a tight defensive system and needs a veteran goalie, yes I might.
With one year left on his contract I don't think he's untradeable. And if PIT take a bit of salary then they might even get something back of worth. |

Broduer Thomas Nabokov could be had at around half the price.
Boston's back up is a UFA this year also and I am sure some teams will be looking at him as a starter and Toronto will probably move Reimer.
it is a good year to get a good deal on goalie .
Poor Fluery
There are 13 UFA goalies that would be a better option than Fluery this year . Not that many starting positions open this year . |

Exactly. That should have been a no brainier.
I would still do Markstrom and Booth for Fluery and Despres . Hopefully Despres just had a Tyler Myers sophomore year. - VANTEL
Lol....how does that trade help the Pens? |

Explain?
They can go get a reliable goalie once Fluery is gone. |

Oh ....the Canucks would be doing the Pens a favour for the low low cost of Simon Despres?
Throwing in Booth is just dirty , man. |

Name one team who is going to take Fluerys contract next year? We would be taking him as a 5 mil back up? WTF would we do it unless there is something in it for us.
As I said earlier there are 14 other better options than Fluery next year.
In 2015 there is Schneider Niemi and Anderson as better options and I am pretty sure they will all be re-signed.So if Pens want to cinch up their goalie issues they need to do it this year.
Despres is overrated. He has gone down more than a cheap good looking hooker. If he is so great why is he not up here now ?
He is young but he has not proven that he is going to be an NHLer yet. Same as the best goalie prospect in the world last year, Markstrom.
The only way we take Fluerys bad contract is if we give one back. They need third liners we need a back up .
You have to look what is behind the obvious first thought.
No one is taking Fluerys contract unless there is something in return. Booth could be a second liner on the Oilers. |

For all those poo pooing Sutter as a 3 rd liner ,he has 2 goals and 2 assists and + 5 so far in his first 5 playoff games this year. Including a game winner.
He looks like a player I would take any day on my team as a third liner. |

Cuz that's exactly what we need, more 3rd line centers.
Santorelli, Matthias, Richardson, Horvat, Gaunce
I think the rub about Sutter was that he would allows be a 3rd line C (ie no 2C upside). For a team that can't score, trading a top6er for a 3rd liner + crappy picks is scary asset management. |

I have been a fan of the Sutter style of Hockey ever since they entered the league.Santorelli is a FA so until signed we can stop putting him on the roster.
Gaunce until I see him actually wearing a Canuck jersey I am not convinced he is an NHLer. We both know he is not ready this year and maybe not next year either.
I would not mind a 3 rd line of
Mathias Sutter Downie if we can sign him.
The he real deal would be Pouliot and the first. Sutter would be a nice addition |
