Rumour = Truth?
- AlexF

Sometimes yes rumour =truth

Once heard a rumour that torts would be the next Canucks coach
Also heard a rumour that the sedins were close to signing extensions
Even heard a rumour that after Philly traded for hamhuis rights that he would sign in van instead

But to be fair I also heard a rumour that iggy was traded to the bruins too

I am a guy that looks for the positives. I try to analyze the situation and look for best scenarios.

Here are what is happening so far that has me very excited.

TB out in 4. TB will look for D help. More of a stable stay at home shutdown positional player. We have Tanev and Hammer for that.

LA possibly out in 4.
Dibs on the Stevens HC job

Philly struggling
They need D with grit and can skate.
We have Edler and KB
Also the sooner Philly is out the sooner we can talk to Hextal for Gm position

Detroit struggling to keep Boston in check
They need PMD we have Edler for that.
They also need help in center to shut down other teams so that they can free up Datsuk to play his game. We have Kesler

Was hoping for CBJ to struggle and create a bidding war for Kesler. But I am sure there will be a bidding war if Kesler was made available.

Was hoping for SJ to get bounced in 4 then Tod m would have been fired and we would have had a coach. But I cant say that I am unhappy with LA getting their backside handed to them.

Don't really care about Chi and Stl since neither will move significant players in a trade. Wanted Col to struggle as well and get desperate for Vet D help and would be willing to trade 1 of their many Centers.

I has just messing around but in all honesty those rumours you list were mostly press releases. It was reported and confirmed that Torts was having interviews for the position, so to assume he might get it is no stretch. Sedins close to an extension was also reported when the discussions were under way and both parties openly said as much to the media. Hamhuis to Van was "rumoured" when he stated he'd love to play close to home. Same thing happened with Garrison btw.

Real rumours, the whisper variety that are not being reported by the Bob Macs or going off of statements made to the press, those are the mickey mouse ones that Eklund has made a living on making up. I'd wager those rumours are not far from 100% false.

For the most part, there always seems to be at least a nugget of truth accompanying a rumour

That's what Eklund would have you believe but I don't buy it. If some player grew up near a team, played junior near a team, played well under another team's coach, and is disgruntled with his current team then a trade scenario involving that player to one of those teams suddenly has a nugget of truth. It doesn't. It's trying to create a narrative based on geographical or historical speculation.

Sometimes there are of course internal conversations that slip out to the media, most of the time on purpose IMO (a Leafs via Dregger specialty), but it's often just too damn difficult to see the mirage from the land because so many tweeters/bloggers/yahoos speculate on possible trade scenarios on the most basic of pretenses.

It's fun to talk about but if you really want to be closer to reporting accuracy it's probably best you dismiss most if not all trade rumours outright. You'll be correct more often than not.

I haven't seen anyone on here completely against trading Kesler for a decent return (at least not since he asked to be traded) nor Luongo (at least not for a few years).

Who are you talking to?

- AlexF

Haha should have had fans in quotes. Wasn't directing at any one in this thread. Most here seem to know what's what with these guys. Sure there is some debate about the Sedins and edler. We all agree that keslers value will only decrease so let's get a lump sum now in our state. And yes, that lump sum is not Sutter and some crap picks. He is worth more.

You know, I was really happy Kesler wasnt traded at the TDL. Not because I like him or think we cant be a good team without him but because of the long string of horrible trades made by MG. In the end, watching two elite goalies turn into gambles on Horvat, Markstrom and a 3rd liner only, I simply knew this trade had to wait. The next GM may drop the ball on a Kesler trade but I didint have any faith at all that Gillis could find a trade that didnt have gamble written all over it. Im sure the fact that kesler didnt put the Panthers on his list took Gillis out of his comfort zone anyways.

Cant help it. I am in sales. It is about the value and not the price. This is the fundamental mistake the Gillis made in his trades.

There will be more teams with interest at the draft than at the last trade dead line.

It is still a 5 mil contract and I am not sure teams were ready to take it on at the tdl.

I hate trading significant players at TDL. Any team looking to add talent are almost always at the cap and they wont send just prospects and picks. More often then not there is a salary dump involved as well. I would rather do draft or off season then we get what we want and teams taking on the salary has time to get compliant.

It seems to make more sense to have the newly acquired player start the year with training camp and having the chance to get comfortable and learn the teams system. It was interesting to see MSL dealt at the tdl, but he has taken a while to find his spot and get going with the Rangers.

I guess I agree with Booner, we may be lucky Gillis didn't get the chance to screw up this trade and it will be interesting to see what the new GM can do and what the deal will mean for the Canucks moving forward.

err, cross off moving forward, I mean future.

Anyone else a little surprised we haven't heard anything on the Matt Cooke suspension yet?

So I doubt Van wants to trade in division, and I realize (not trolling, being honest) that van fans on this site are a bit hoerish with trade proposals, but ANA matches up great for kesler and elder. A package that STARTS with vatanan, ott's 1st, and rakell for both. I think more would be needed to given by ANA but I think thats a solid starting point. So assuming Gibson and Lindholm are off limits, how would you make a trade that works for both?

They don't play tonight, I guess that is why it isn't rushed. Still thought we would know by now. Should be steep.

For both, you'd probably have to add Etem and another 1st to get a serious conversation started.

See... individually they would probably get more... but how much? Kesler has his "list of teams" which will hurt his value a tad. does edler? I dunno. I think Etem and a 1st is too much. What about both 2014 1st's with vatanan and rakell? Just havin fun here so no lych mobs please

Fixed, all bets are off now. That list could expand greatly by the time the draft rolls around.
