Carol Schram: Canucks Prospects: Checking in on their CHL Playoffs so Far
The Vancouver Canucks' season may be over, but plenty of their young prospects are still playing, on the road to the 2014 Memorial Cup.

Worth nothing: OHL leading scorer Zack Mitchell of Guelph is probably earning himself an NHL contract in these playoffs, especially if the Storm beat the Otters in this series. The 21-year-old was undrafted, so he's currently a free agent.

Are we attracting any free agents with what is happening here?

Free agents are not a good way to build a team. They can be used to suppliment but cannot replace good drafting & developing. Our team isn't a guy or two short from being a contender. Would rather focus on creating a pipeline of prospects than attracting free agents. Once the team has great development free agents will want to come to a good team in a beautiful city.

Danny DeKeyser - great FA pick-up. It was like Detroit just drafted a 1st rounder with several more years of development under his belt.

Kassian is such a piece of trash. Takes a crazy amount of undisipline penalties, is lazy as a house cat and dumb as a post. But he's big and mean
The stuff that guy gets away with is pathetic.

I was responding to this... from Carol.

Vancouver also has the amazing city thing going in their favour. Edm, not so much.

The other thing is edm has been so awful for so long that guys have to wonder about the culture of the team and whether it can be turned around

Kassian isn't undisipline, too lazy to do something undisipline.

It all depends on the Kids....if they give up ,were finished (there really is no evidence of that taking place yet)...everyone else on the roster has been turned over. I don't see too many others that have sunk into mediocracy due to years of losing. Maybe Gags, but hes a goner.

So ridiculous. There's 1000x's more intent to injure in what Lucic did than in most high speed hits/collisions that result in suspensions. They need to start focusing on eliminating malicious behaviour rather than punishing unlucky hustle.

Terrible comparison .... How many players have been forced to retire due to being speared ... You've obviously never had a concussion.... Ask chris pronger if he would take a few shots to the groin over his career ending concussions

Good point

I'd like to see Kassian do something against stronger competition ... I guess any progress is good tho

Wasn't he comparing a coach grabbing his groin to a player spearing another?

Maybe a bit of frustration, but it's more his own coachability than a culture of losing that's effecting him. He certainly needs a good center and sheltering in some offensive situations if he's gonna break out. I would give him another season at least before I read his career it's last rights.

The big power forwards always take longer to develop. Kassian is far from the 1st guy of his nature to take a long time to figure it out.

Whats a reasonable age for him to develop into solid NHL'er? 2 seasons? 3?4?

I took it as the high speed hits aren't as bad as stick swinging ...
