Google Flyers and Kesler and you'll get a ton of hits with respect to this subject - a quick sample:
"It's no secret that the Flyers like Kesler. Bob Clarke signed him to an offer sheet in 2006, and sure, he's not the general manager anymore, but his influence still runs deep, and just look at the Flyers recent history. From Peter Forsberg to Mike Richards to Brayden Schenn to Claude Giroux to Sean Couturier to Scott Laughton, solid two-way centers are what the Flyers have built their team around for at least a decade. They really like players like Ryan Kesler" - Zogg
Dating back to the early ninties the flyers always go nuts over center men. Like far to nuts. Look no further then trading for Chris gratten |

The teams in on the Kesler trade were Chi Ana Pitt and CBJ, Philly came out at the time and said they are not interested in trading one of the two fore mentioned.
That is why you didn't see their name in the teams perusing Kes. - VANTEL
Best case scenario would be PIT getting knocked out in the first round. If that happens, I think they will take a run at Kesler big time. That, and Blysma could become available.

Chris Gratton - now, there was a bit of an enigma if there ever was one. Ultimately never managed to meet expectations given his coveted physical components, but did tease with a few years of quality productivity. Overall, a serviceable career but so much potential, yet never really being able to crack that elite level.
Yah, the Flyers definitely seem to love that prototypical style of pivots (I still remember Tim Kerr in his 'office' - 3 feet in front of the net, virtually unmoveable, tapping home garbage goal after garbage goal, always sticking his nose into the dirty areas) |

What was more puzzling about that trade was.....they had the legion of doom and Brind omour. So 2 good wingers and 2 good centers. Then they trade Renberg for Gratten
Gratten was forced to be a 3rd line center or winger. Bad managment |

I think the Flyers are one of the few teams that really makes you scratch your head with respect to many of the moves they make - or DON'T make (case in point - why oh why have they never properly addressed their goaltending issues is truly a mystery )
Edit: the Legion of Doom line was, in my humble opinion, one of the most dominant units in that era (perhaps a case could even be made for ranking it amongst the list of all time greats) |

For the last 20 yrs they'd rather have 5 great centers and not worry about talent in any other position. Not sure what they are thinking. Its basically like no nuts running a team, with the exception on the centers part |

Poor goaltending? I mean lets be honest, goaltending prior to the mid 90's was pathetic as a whole |

I think Price has only had 15 or 16 shots on him, but there have been tonnes of defensive break downs in front of him.
Team Canada defense the Canadiens have not... |

Great game, definitely had a bit of a 80's feel to it, with both teams developing quality chances.

The longer it goes with Torts not being fired the more worried I get. If torts is still around we'll be a lottery team next year. - 89_hockey
Especially considering the season ticket renewal deadline is tomorrow. |

I'm worried because torts could sell a computer to an amish person. |

I can see him doing the Jedi wave on Trevor Linden: "I'm the coach you're looking for" |

How about we trade with Edm for 3rd overall.
Tanev and 6th overall for Edm 3rd overall.
Considering Elbald will be long gone at 3 spot Edm does not need another forward they would be wiling to trade down for a D. We get either Bennet, MDC, or Reinhart. - Linden_4_Capt
Ummmm...we could use a Center....badly. |
