Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Hold 6th Pick After Draft Lottery, 1st Round Predictions The Vancouver Canucks retained their sixth pick in the NHL draft lottery on Tuesday. As the playoffs begin, Jason Garrison has announced that he'll be joining Kevin Bieksa and Alex Burrows at May's World Championships in Minsk.

My thoughts on our next coach:

Someone innovative. A teacher who understands how to get the most out of every player's skillset & allows them to play with instinctive freedom. It's not our job to find that guy - it's Linden & the new GM's. They should be looking at every level for the right guy.

I personally still like Gulutzan, Willie Desjardins, Ralph Kreuger, and what about Denis Savard in his 2nd NHL opportunity? The Blackhawks core that kicked our ass all those years credits him for how he mentored the young talent he had to work with. Maybe he's a bridge coach at the very least for our youth movement? I think all of those names deserve serious consideration. Enough with the old-school retreads.

Some interesting names there. I remember talking about Desjardins last summer and being intrigued. I'm not sure if Gulutzan is the guy I'd like but he can't be worse than Tortorella.

Perhaps the the new GM (whoever that ends up being) has his own ideas for head coach.

Minus the line about Linden and the new GM, this comment could have been posted 11 months ago and still be totally relevant.

Desjardins' Texas Stars went 47-17-3-7 with the highest winning % (.703) in the AHL (had 2nd highest last season). How has this guy not been given his NHL shot yet?

Guys who specialize in defensive schemes & PK units are usually the types to micromanage the forwards to the point of stripping them of offensive creativity. My personal preference is an offensive mind @ the top of the pyramid who hires a defensive coordinator (for lack of a hockey term) to bring the package together.

I'd love to see him be the forwards coach. I'm not sure how good he'd be as a head coach. To his credit he actually developed players. Played the Sedins consistently and put them in an opportunity to succeed. Not burying them on the 4th line or stapling them to the bench when they made a mistake.

Crow doesn't give youngsters a chance to explode onto the scene. A rookie with offensive flair will spend 3 years in a checking role. Don't like that. Also don't like him having pre-existing relationships/attachment to the current group of vets.

Like when Ohlund & Baumgartner used to stand as far back in the offensive zone as humanly possible & flip weak wristers towards the net from the corner of Blueline Ave & Boards Blvd? No thanks... I want a PP coach who understands how to effectively collapse the offensive formation in on the PKers & keeps it fluid.

Draisaitl will be long gone, but Dal Colle if available. Otherwise Ehlers, Virtanen or Nylander in that order.

No matter how I stack it, Nylander doesn't fall into my top 6.

In no particular order, here are the top 6 (IMO) and we should take whichever one of them is still on the board.

Bennett
Reinhart
Ehlers
Dal Colle
Draisaitl
Ekblad

I remember Kane bawling like a school girl when Savard got fired. He obviously had an impact on some players.

I remember him blubbering away, also. Pathetic.

I can't see Vancouver taking Ehlers. All this talk of the "Boston model" makes me think they'll take Del Colle (if available) or Ritchie.
