I got out before that BS went into effect. But I know someone who was in an 8th grade English course. The course curriculum (set at the board level) didn't call for something (can't remember what it was). The teacher shut the door and locked it, and told the kids, "The school board says you don't need to learn this, but you do." THAT is a teacher.

it is. but like you said, that person is probably currently unemployed. or at the very least, a grossly underpaid and overworked civil servant.

the entire system today is just a microcosm of society rotting from the inside out. i helped my buddys girlfriend by volunteering at a "crafts day" at a school in the city over the summer. my. god. lets just say us volunteers were relied on less for our artistic contributions and more for our ability to prevent scissors from ending up in the wrong hands.

thats the way to be. actually wanting to teach, not just crank out things. the teachers who are willing to put in work to match the students level of care
- stayinthefnnet

But now the standardized tests aren't used to weed out the bad students (Which they didn't anyway, because some smart and motivated kids still do poorly on standardized or timed tests), but are being used to weed out "bad" teachers, when teaching isn't really what is being done or measured. Kids aren't widgets. Standardization of teaching methods or of testing doesn't improve the product.

I remember being told we were going to have a standard Chemistry Final. Our chemistry teachers were terrible. The entire grade failed the final except 1 person. They had to curve it so much and everyone just got Bs
- PhillySportsGuy

I had a circuits course (taught to mechanical engineers) where EVERYONE failed. Those who failed best got A's. I got an F.

nope. only increased caring by teachers, parents, and the kids themselves will.

I know this is a photoshop, because it shows Alexander Ovechkin attempting to backcheck and/or defend.

Well, apparently some people only partially failed, where as others really failed.
