I thought we were trading up this year? - thundachunk
Nah no point really. Ekblad would be the only one worth it for, the rest are pretty equal. I don't want Ekblad, there are 6-8 pretty similar players after him that we could get. |

Button's saying the Canucks pick Virtanen at #6. 6'1 210 lbs "plays with an edge and the best skater in the draft."
He thinks its pretty open after the top 4 or 5. |

He will Go#2 unless Fla doesn't want a D man then he could go#1. I have LD as #2 on my list if went as late as 6th or later I would be very surprised. |

Bennett, Draisaitl, Reinhart, Dal Colle are all a toss up. We just need one team to pick a Ritchie, McCann or Virtanen and we've got a stud. And if they don't, we've got a lot of good players to choose from. |

I have ekblad and Bennett before him, seems his work ethic seems to be a slight concern. |

I could see Calgary picking Virtanen for a little local flare after we grabbed Shinkaruk last year. |

I would personally wager that if any of the so-called big five were to fall, Draisaitl would be the one.
Thing is with the 6th, is that we either grab whatever(if any) scraps fall out of the top 5 or we are the first team to open up bidding on realistically the first 6th to 40th rated players.
My personal opinion is that with the "subpar" draft class of this year, teams such as the Canucks (6-15th) will take the "safer" big guys such as Ritchie, Perlini, Vertanen, Kempe and McCann as opposed to the high risk potentially high reward types such as Nylander, Kapanen, Ho-Sang and Ehlers ( i will be surprised if Ehlers goes top ten).
Unfortunately, i think the player management picks this year, in this draft class, will ultimately come as a surprising disappointment to the majority of us as its so wide open |

Canucks army guys are suggesting that Virtanen is being helped out by an over age guy. Scores but doesn't put up a ton of assists and wasn't a prolific scorer last year. I don't see much of the draft eligible prospects...
Any good sites where I can do some good reading on draft eligible players? |

Virtanen or McCann would be Canucks pick should nothing happen out of the blue in the top 5. |

@sbarnesglobal: Trevor Linden has had 2 meetings with Tortorella. Which is a good sign for Torts. Doesn't mean he'll stay. But he lasted more than 1 meeting

Thanks Thunda, I'd like to thank all the people who helped me to achieve this highly coveted, prestigious award, and the highlight of my existence thus far:
1) Baby Jesus
2) My latex companion "Sheneequa"
3) Copious amounts of liquor (mostly aqua-velva shooters and turnip liquere)
4) Fosco's strict diet of mini-chocolate Edlers and mainlining bosco (hmm Fosco/Bosco - coincidence or? )
Thanks to everyone who participated, and looking forward to next year as well. - Zogg

I think we could even see a goalie (Thatcher Demko) go as islanders/buffalo may have that need(whoever gets that pick if buff gives it up) or possibly Calgary. If ekblad is taken first or second Reinhart will go 1st or 2nd. Does a team have a need for a good two way D-man (Fleury) or Deangelo (who has been compared to Doughty) is Kapanen appealing? I feel 1-2 teams in the top 5 go off the board leaving us Bennett, Dal Colle or Drasaitl. Which I think you're right will be a stud. If we get one of those 3 I can't see harm in letting them have a legit shot at a top 6 role right off the get-go. If not Virtanen would be nice pickup with already possessing an nhl shot and speed. |
