How is there no (frank)ing hockey in this market on TV tonight. Most teams only have 2 games left battling for playoff positions. This is why the NHL is so (frank)ing bush league. - Chest Rockwell
I think there are sometimes games on NBC (I've also seen a few Chicago games on one of the Chicago stations - for some reason I get their feed and it's not a specialty channel). I agree that it's sh*tty there are so many games on tonight and some still with seeding/play-off repercussions and yet there's nothing on TSN or CBC or Sportsnet (other than @#$@#$ golf and baseball - sorry, I just can't get into either, although I have played golf occasionally) |

What did you think of Markstrom last night after watching him live?? - Jim_Robson
I heard Blake Price say something today and for a first time I agree. Keep Both goalies next year and cap hit down. It is not like we are chasing the cup next year. Give them both a good long look. |

I thought he had one softie but otherwise played pretty well (funny how much the crowd was behind him, though - he could have snagged a wrist shot from the Av's end and the crowd would have cheered/applauded) - Zogg
He sure looks lanky! |

I'm on board with that. We should give Eriksson a good look next year as well... I think he's going to be the best of the lot. |

Canucks should be looking at Kesler to Ducks for their 6 th overall plus Bonino or Etem.
Or
Chi for Terevainen and 1 st
Canucks 2x firsts and Hansen for E.Kane.
Trade Bieksa for Kadri
Kane Kadri Kassian
Sedin Sedin Jensen
Booth Etem Burrows
Sestito Richardson Mathias - VANTEL

I love Bieksa but the guy is one of the most frustrating players I've seen. One game he's a @##$@ all-star, and the next game he's AHLberts. But yah, he certainly adds a lot of character/personality/leadership. Just wish he would be even a little more consistent and settle for the safe play on occasion, and stop trying to do it all himself |

He's playing with Edler... Anyone with eyes can see that is a horrific pairing. We have known for years Bieksa + Edler = trash. |

First of all there is Kassian and Burrows that have heart. Kadri coming back has heart. |

That's because he's a SYSTEM coach (as I stated) whose success doesn't rely upon chemistry or talent. It's about buying into a scheme. That's why he was obsessed with having "yes men" as his "leaders" and doesn't bother talking to the players or making adjustments in game.
He won the Jack Adams by default. Inherited a young, relatively cheap (cap space) playoff calibre team (in a WEAK division) that didn't make the playoffs and had just added Roberto Luongo in his prime. - DrChristianTroy
System coaches can be great, no? What are u saying?
And so it seems that his ultimate failures last year weren't his fault, but Gillis or the personnel as torts achieved less, while av has been successful elsewhere.

You are defending Bieksa and Booner is lurking these boards . That was a specific list that said do not defend Bieksa around Booner |

AV was a very good system coach he was a poor adjustment coach. He could not make changes on the fly. Once a team played 2 or 3 games against him and figured him out he was hooped ,and then depended on the mercy of his teams skillset. |

Speaking of Edler, on a bit of a sidenote, there was a fantastic passing play in the offensive zone which basically left Edler on a one on one with Varlamov. It was like Edler was stunned that he was all alone and basically just flipped the puck (literally) into Varlamov's glove (i.e. it looked like an Atom player who had just learned to raise the puck ). I feel bad for the guy, as it seems he is simply playing without any sort of confidence (and as you pointed out, Bieksa and Edler are not exactly the best pairing)
Edit: as touched on yesterday, the best players for the Canucks last night were Kassian and Booth (a bit excited to see he's really picked things up and finally seems healthy *cross-your-moose-paws*) |

Some money quotes:
Quinn, on injuries and leaning too heavily on certain players:
Quote:
“During the first part of the year, (the Canucks) played (their) veterans until their noses were bleeding, and then we started to hit the injuries. I talked to (team doctor) Mike Bernstein and he said the injuries are terrible. He said so many of them are coming from the blocked shots and they’re fractures, and they’re not easily healed.”
Quote:
“I know this: you don’t get confidence sitting on the bench and watching the play go on or getting two minutes of play, or being sent out because it gets rough out there. I don’t buy that style of coaching, and yet it exists.”
Linden, on utilization of the Sedins:
Quote:
“I think you have to use your people where they will best excel, and good coaches understand that. I haven’t talked to John about it. I think most people would say you put your best offensive players in the most offensive positions you can.”
“It’s one of those things where I probably felt personally it was a misuse of their abilities, but I’d have to dig deeper into it.”
...on them shot blocking and PKing...
Quote:
“It’s one of those things where I probably felt personally it was a misuse of their abilities, but I’d have to dig deeper into it.”
Linden on minute managing:
Quote:
“When I think about the coaches that were most influential for me, if you take Pat Quinn for example, his greatest strength was to use his whole bench. I think certain players can take big minutes, and certain players start to economize.
When you save yourself because you know you’re going to play X amount of minutes, it’s not a great thing for your bench. I think when you take other players out of the game by playing them such small minutes, that can detract from the overall team identity.”

You are correct sir, and they are Persians not Arabs. I have always found Iranians to be much more friendly and open. - A_SteamingLombardi
Actually Persians are a minority within the Iranian race. I am Iranian but I'm Kurdish not Persian. |
