Sure they did. They had two very solid goalies going into the season. - RogerRoeper
That is my point going into the season you rotate goalies and see if one emerges as a number one. Bernier did but my point is leaf fans went on about ha ing two good goalies but now use one going down as an excuse

Yeah because Reimer poop the bed. Any fanbase would do that. |

You claimed Bernier put-up 940. save % and tried to tie-it-to Ottawa's situation with Anderson. - RogerRoeper
oh, you mean the situation where anderson put up even better numbers, and then got hurt..........and ottawa still made the playoffs.
not sure where you're having a problem with the comparison. |

blaming reimer is RIDICULOUS.
the guy was COMPLETELY hung out to dry by his team. he was facing 40-50 shots EVERY night, maintained a save% comfortably over .900.
that's AT LEAST as much on the defence as the goalie...........more likely, it's MOSTLY on the defence, and the team said as much on a regular basis.

The reason why is reimer will be gone in the off season and it is easier and makes them feel better to blame him than the rest of the team. |

that's par for the course with the leafs though........pick an undeserving scape goat, blame him for teams failure, and ignore the glaring problems.
i also love their solution.........let's hire a guy with ZERO front office experience, create a crap load of tension with existing management, and hope it fixes the problem.

I sure as hell don't blame Reimer. The goaltending may not have been the problem, but it was the solution, so yes, losing the solution is likely what cost them the playoffs. But I don't really care that much, because they weren't contenders either way.
Your post is filled with ample stupidity though. Reimer never faced 40 shots or more a single night during that streak. Further, 7 times all year of 35 games played, he faced that many shots. 20% of the time. |

should have said 30-40, not sure why i put 40-50........the rest of my point stands....he was putting up a .900+ sv% on most nights, that should be MORE than good enough to not go pointless in 8 straight games.

Keep believing that if Jonathan Bernier did not get injured, the leafs were a lock for the playoffs.
And now another Saviour is being brought in to right the ship..........just like Burke was susposed to do.

Shanahan is a good hire. He is a straight shooter and will likely hold people accountable for their failings. Leafs make a huge, huge mistake if they do not bring Carlysle back. He may have gotten more from this team than most other coaches would have achieved. Nobody is going to come in and do a better job!

I think you have to ask if the problem is behind the bench or on the ice. Leafs could bring in another coach and increase the disruption, add new system and, suddenly, they are in the middle of the Conner McDavid sweepstakes! |

or perhaps the new coach actually brings in structure and a system that isn't completely (frank)ed..........and the team plays better.
i think of the two scenarios, mine is probably more likely to occur.
almost every analyst, MSM, blogger, fan, etc...........minus idiots like simmons and cox............feel that if carlyle isn't the biggest problem, he's pretty damn close. |

Carlyle has driven the leafs into the worst possession team in the league..gradually month after month driving them down more and more. that cant be ignored or blamed on the players fully.
the first place to start is fire Carlyle.. or Nonis will start to make desperate moves like trade Kadri and Gardiner for D help..that will change nothing.
if Carlyle is the coach next season we have a great chance at mcdavid

agreed..............
but let's be fair, as long as bernier plays, and reimer isn't there.......you're definitely a contender. |

and we know that when a goalie has a great season (anderson .940) ..they defiantly repeat it.
expect Bernier to come back down a little. |

ouch............
so speaking to spatso's point (and remembering that i'm an ottawa fan)...i think it would be terrible for the leafs to fire carlyle, in fact, they should extend him indefinitely.

A .900 sv% is among the worst in the entire league. I'm not sure why you use that. It's terrible. While I wouldn't say goaltending was the problem, Reimer hasn't been very good this year, for the most part. |

The season was over the moment Bernier got hurt the first time. - RogerRoeper
Kessel with 3G 4A and a -5 in the past 13 games. Not the type of production you would expect from one of the league's most gifted scorers in the most crucial part of the season. |

considering that he's playing in front of, statistically speaking, one of the worst defensvie groups EVER................what did you expect?
even Bernier's numbers are not much more then average at this point.
he's around 9th in sv%, and not even in the top 30 for GAA (counting goalies who've played at least 30 games)
and reimer's sv% is actually .908, which puts him around average for backups, maybe a little lower. |
