They made the playoffs last year. And pushed Pitts in the first round too. After starting out decently this year- maybe what they gave for tv could be considered too much - acquiring vanek at that point made a ton of sense for a bunch of reasons.

Hmmm, so about 500$ a pop?

Spezza would be a perfect fit on the Leafs. With a true #1 C Kessel would easily be a 50 goal scorer. But I can't see the two teams making a deal.

If there was a trade I'd expect it to be Tor 1st, Kadri and Phaneuf for Spezza and Cowen
