for what? I cant see a big return for Clarkson and a fragile Reimer...unless they are taking on someone elses bad contract

I don't think they can buy him out. Don't think they have the buyout plus pretty sure in order to do the buyout you had to be under contract during the lockout.

I think Doug McLean said something along the lines of "don't be surprised if he is bought out". Not that he's the sharpest guy. I just kind of assumed it's fair game under the new cba.

I'd sign him for a max 3 mill (as chetmanly said)

I wonder if they deal their 1st, Reimer and Clarkson in a package.
- Lahey

What would they be looking at for a return though?

Semin and his 7m a year to 2018 contract?

That'd be an interesting trade. But Rutherford is looking to save dollars.

He has a NTC too, leafs are stuck with him. Either trade him to a team he wants to go to and retain part of his salary or they are stuck with the guy

they would save cash in the short term, almost 2m a season for 4 years.
OH gross, Clarkson is getting paid 7m in the 2016-17, 2017-18 season, no way the leafs can trade him with the hefty years in the middle of his contract

Anyone hear the Cogliano interview with Gregor? Guy seemed to really start to realize things after going to another team and being told some of the same things again.

Really need to find someone that these young guys can respect and listen to.

capgeek says modified NTC and NMC, so who knows. If it's only NTC you can use the threat of AHL to force him to waive to more teams. Plus another poop year and he's going to want out anyway, the media/fans will rip him apart.

But with him coming into his big salary years in that contract, I dont see a lot of teams lining up to take him, unless the leafs are retaining salary

Yup, good interview and humbling personality moving from edm to Ana. Are you saying edm needs new coach or vet players? Ana went from Carlyle to boudreau helped him plus playing on a line with koivu and winnik gives him guidance.

Yup. Leafs can buy him out, but will not count as compliance buyout considering the time he signed.

maybe. I hope EDM can draft this Aaron Irving guy (I know, another oil king). He looks like he could be a pretty solid NHLer some day. Compared to Jason Smith

And Staios too. The last respectable Oilers teams had at least one thing going for them-HEART!

Those guys, Smyth ,Moreau,Torres,Stoll...those guys have proven to be as hard to acquire as the skilled forwards this team was torn apart to draft in the first place. To Mac T's credit, adding Hendricks, Perron and Ferrence have been steps in the right direction, but it seems we need a good half dozen more of them.

We knew this wasn't going to be fast or easy.

I am putting full blame onto Dubnyk for the poopty outcome of this season. Yes, Eakin's system sucked at the start and not many people enjoy him as coach. BUT, Our players were playing and putting up numbers and the goalies couldn't stop anything.

No, but when you look at the meat and potatoes of this line up, it's pretty sad. There is not enough heart on this team to claw back from a 2 goal lead in the 1st, let alone keep it from becoming a route.

God Damn I miss the lunch pail team of the late 90's. Obviously they had the goaltending, but aside from that they would kick the living poop out of today's Oilers.

Centers
Weight> RNH, Lindgren < Gagner, Marchant >Gordon, Buchburger> Smyth '14

Left Wing
Smyth'98 < Hall (barely), McAmmond = Perron, Murray > Joensuu, Laraque > Gazdic

Right Wing
Geurin > Eberle, Kovalenko >Yakupov, Grier> Hendricks,

Defense
Mironov> Petry
Hamrlik >J Schultz
Ninnimaa > Marincin
DeVries > Ferrence
Dollas > Belov
Musil > Klefbom

Joseph> Scrivens, Fasth ,Bryz Combined
Essensa > Labackup.

Lol....it's not even close, and it was dog fight just to squeeze into the playoff's. I imagine without the goaltending this '98 team would also miss the playoff's, but still mop the floor with our young but talented group of heartless pansies.

100% Bubba. I would love a guy like Ott on this club, but I doubt he has any more impact than Hendricks or Smytty on the young guns. It's going to be tough to find those guys.

Lecavailier is washed up, Thornton is locked up, Iginla is gonna be a Bruin for a while it seems, Jagr is too old to help us long term, Alfreddson wants to win, Hossa has too long a deal...etc...WE ARE (frank)ED!

I'd still trade for Vinny frankly. Could be a decent veteran presence for us.

If we were floating a 1st round pick (not necessarily the 2nd overall, maybe we trade down first) + Gagner, would we be able to get Vinny + Coburn?

Not sure that Philly would be all that opposed to moving Vinny for peanuts. The guy pretty much sucks now. Not great defensively, and doesn't put up points no more.I'm not the expert and haven't seen him play much in the last few years, but from all accounts his new Flyers contract is as much of an albatross as his old Tampa Bay deal.

I'm bored. And I don't feel like talking about what the Oilers could/should do. It's getting depressing.
