he probably has a way higher rate per unique visitor. maybe like $3-15 per 500-1000 visitors and then like .003 or .002 cents per repeat visitor daily.

Just spitballin' but a lot of the sites I've worked with were pretty similar to using Google Ads.

Ek uses AdChoices though and I'm not sure on their revenue model.
