Yes but he signed a contract well into his UFA years. This isn't a typical RFA contract. It does establish a market value. If he was not getting paid MV than he would not have signed for 6 years.
- FlyersSteve118

Thats not entirely true. Hockey is a rough sport and injuries happen all the time. He's signing the deal for less than MV because he's getting security.

The party just goes on forever, eh? No signs of turbulence whatsoever?

The weakening Canadian dollar is certainly a concern, but the massive new Canadian TV deal that kicks in next season is going to push it up no matter what. Its just a question of how much. Don't forget, the cap ceiling was artificially deflated this year as part of the CBA. If that hadn't happened, it would most likely have been around 67-68 million this year rather than 64.3

Apparently, St Louis & Steppan have the flu...get sick Rangers

If they miss the game tonight, and Wednesday night could be huge. I want them to miss the playoffs so bad. The thing is Columbus, and Toronto are tanking.

Detroit is going to get in, and get Datsyuk and Zetterberg back. They will be a handful.

McGinn recalled. Now all we have to do is scratch Lecavalier for Akeson and we're near invincible!

Really excited for the game tonight. I wonder if they'll do a Carter tribute like they did for Richards when he came back. And for the love of God, please don't boo Richards every time he touches the puck. Wasn't his decision to leave.

Still doesn't really matter. He's giving up a year or two of UFA, but it probably will have little impact on MacDonald

Do you have any evidence of the contrary?

Yup, I'm staying with my original guess. 6 years, 25.5-27 million.

3.75-4.25 range seems about right for MacDonald.

You can almost count on a rags vs flyers in the 1st round. The only question is who will get home ice. The leafs in my opinion are all but done and the jackets have some work to do but think maybe they can sneak in.

Thats low. He's going to be pushing $5M. I think somewhere between 4.5-5 is really where its going to end up. MacDonald has all the leverage. He's about to be one of the top 5 defenseman on the market in a league with teams starving for young, two-way defenseman.

How offensive. Use the real one or go home! (Crosby and Malkin is the original)

I would love to see the Wings get in and play the Pens in the first round.

It's not going to be under $4 million. 4/18 is the best we can hope for.

I also would love to see that because the pens would have their hands full and if they have another 1st round exit, can you imagine the whining and crying in the steel city?

Signs of trouble:

- The Canadian dollar continuing to trend down,
- onset of outdoor game fatigue,
- Sid/OV aren't young anymore... torch goes to...?
- Boston/LA/Chicago aren't winning the Cup indefinitely,
- 1/3 of the clubs are losing/hemorrhaging money,
- continued softness in US and Canadian economies.

I'm not taking unabated growth in HRR as a given.

I think the Pens would beat them, but they'd really sweat it out. Wings young players are starting to step up. Nyquist has been very good lately.

What evidence is there of outdoor game fatigue? Hockey will go on long after Sid and OV are done playing. None of those teams have to win the Cup for HRR to continue to grow. Clubs have been losing money on the books for years. HRR and the Cap continued to grow.
