I think this is a great place to talk hockey, and even if/when I disagree with folks, it is still a great place to talk hockey.

But -- and no offense to anyone, because politics are important -- this is one of the single worst places to talk politics, because that is a topic people have to want to engage in, not have it thrust upon them.

Politics is intensely personal and affects people's lives.

Hockey's a game.

I can't imagine how anyone thinks that those of us who come here to talk about hockey would want to mix it with something like politics.

My wife is a teacher and the place we are staying is cheaper in August than July. But we are avoiding the Orlando area. I'm thinking about either Cape Canaveral or St. Augustine. St. Augustine looks like it has more to do. I want something laid back, but still a bit touristy. And very few kids.

In no particular order:
Ovechkin- good player, scores goals but he doesnt make the players around him better and I don't even think he's one of the top 10 players in the NHL

Phaneuf- good dman, but nowhere near the player Toronto fans think he is

Ryan Miller- he's good but he has flaws, leaves too many fat rebounds for my liking

I think he's a great player, but consensus seems to be that he's somewhere in the Pronger/Potvin/Robinson stratosphere, hence the overrated bit. By the end of this decade, I don't think he will even be top-10 with all the crazy-good kids in or on their way into the league.

Olli Jokinen - I know the guy puts up numbers, but he never seems to be able to stand out or really excel at anything. Never did anything that impressed me.

Kevin Bieksa - He hits, and is a decent enough puck mover with a nice shot. He's hailed by some (not just Vancouver) fans as some elite, top-pair defenseman. He's a good 3rd pair/adequate 2nd pair player who can be a nice compliment to a top-pair offensive defenseman.

Jimmy Howard - Again, we have a fairly good/adequate player who has done...well, I'm not really sure what. He puts up good, but not great numbers, and gets treated as if he is an elite goalie at times. For my money, I'd take a number of goalies, including journeyman Steve Mason, over him.
