But still...Brown turns 30 next year. That's...yeah, they won the Cup. But yikes. That's...wow.

They're definitely paying for that bad boy...their long-term commitments are significant.

- AllInForFlyers

Richards too...

Have they used their buyouts yet?

True, but even more than points, He's not doing the Richie things he used to do on a regular basis. It's like he just another solid top 9 guy
- Jsaquella

I guess he got what he wanted then.

I think they can get away with just buying one of them out. Richards may still be tradable.

I don't know if you can tie up $12M in 2 players who will give you 70-80 points combined and play very strong defense.

Meh, overpaying for Brown now, but they were severely underpaying on his last contract... evens out. Lombardi actually doesn't have too many poor contracts on the books... some of the inherited term is questionable, but he's getting some ridiculous value for dollar, especially on Kopitar and Williams.

If both Mason and Giroux continue playing stellar hockey to the end it will be a tough decision between the two. Mason helped them in the beginning of the season allowing them to be in running for the playoffs. Giroux is helping now and keeping them in the running for the playoffs.
- Streit2ThePoint

I would have to give the nod to Giroux. Mason did play outstanding in the beginning of the year but the Flyers were still not winning games. Mason gave them a chance every night but the offense was just not there. The Flyers really didn't start winning until Giroux snapped out of his funk or his hand was completely healed (whichever one)

He gets to be a supporting cast member in a non-hockey market. If he doesn't score, he can just shrug his shoulders. Can you imagine if he was putting up these kinds of numbers with the Flyers? The fans would be all over him.

He also isn't getting the media attention like he got here in Philly and supposedly hated.

I go

1. Giroux
2. Mason
3. Simmonds.

I'd throw Kimmo in there... key driver of the PP and PK success that the team has been riding to wins... I definitely think he's a no-brainer for the Ashbee.

Simmonds is also a serious consideration but rightfully 3rd on any list.

McGinn recalled. Now all we have to do is scratch Lecavalier for Akeson and we're near invincible!

Really excited for the game tonight. I wonder if they'll do a Carter tribute like they did for Richards when he came back. And for the love of God, please don't boo Richards every time he touches the puck. Wasn't his decision to leave.

Sure you can. Fans can idolize the guy, managers need to avoid sentimentality.
- Jsaquella

That is a fair point. Both guys are certainly still good players, but they aren't worth what their contracts are. The thing is, you can look at pretty much every roster in the NHL and find a couple of guys who are overpaid.

True. But I'm not talking about points, I'm talking about level of play overall. Here he was a catalyst. This season, he's been just a guy.

And Richards never played like he was just a guy. He would games or small stretches, but he'd always be a presence on some level.

I would vote Kimmo for the Barry Ashbee too. He's been a pillar for them once again. +7 with 28 points. I'd say he has another year in him if he wants it.

I would like to see them do a tribute. He scored a lot of goals for this team. They weren't ALL meaningless empty netters

See, I kinda disagree with that.

Yeah, you pay Doughty and Kopitar. Totally fine.

But you took on Richards and Carter. Granted, that got you a Cup, so that's a mitigator. But you still took on 8-10 years of term, for both.

But no one forced you to give Brown eight years, and the kicker is extending Quick until 2023!

Again: I get it. You're paying your guys.

But at the same time...those commitments are staggering, in term. Richards and Brown are now bottom six forwards. What in the world are you going to do when Carter joins them and Quick's a backup?

If they do a Carter tribute, it might delay the 365th Broad St Bullies tribute scheduled for this week.

Not Brown. He signed AFTER the new CBA went into effect. Can't use a comp buyout on him
