I don't think its quite that easy of a comparison. Carter made the Olympic team over Giroux for a reason. He is one of the elite wingers in the NHL with near 60% face-offs. I love Simmonds but it was a good trade for the Kings. While Quick did his part Richards was a beast in the series against VAN and against STL.

Richards is having a terrible season, 10 goals total so far this year. I still believe in him come playoff time. The only team in the WC with 1-2 punch at center that can compete with Kopitar and Richards is San Jose.

Nice article though. Sure we will see Simmonds in Quicks crease all night tomorrow.

Kesler is not worth Hextall's old jock, let alone a stud power forward, a shutdown center with offensive upside, and a first.

Plus..Kesler is too much of a Prima Donna to play in Philly.

His feeling would get hurt to go along with his physical injuries.

Kesler is not wanted or needed in Philly.

I never said they were or should be missed. I merely pointed out that they were important parts to a Stanley Cup team, one year after being traded because they weren't viewed that way in Philly.
- sbroads24

They weren't viewed in Philly that way because they showed they couldn't LEAD us to a cup, however they HELPED the kings to a stanely cup because Richards and Carter didn't need that leadership role with guys such as Justin Williams, Dustin Brown, Kopitar, and Doughty already being great leaders for the team.

and for the record crosby would be averaging a point ever 16.35 minutes vs simmons point for ever 21.58 minutes.

Simmons sucks.

No, actually, he doesn't suck at all.

You are trying to use +/- as your argument. I'm not the lame one
- sbroads24

That's not what he was doing at all..... That's a pretty dense way of taking in what he said.

I cannot stress enough how much using a calculator ruins this entire argument. When you're on the first line, you're playing (generally speaking) the toughest opponents.

He can't seem to help himself. I wish he would show he can write about something else. Maybe a challenge that he can't post anything about the Flyers for two weeks. He would probably lose even if you said two days.

This Simmons guy must play for the Leafs, if he sucks like you say he does. Good luck hanging onto that playoff spot.

For the record.

Go back and rework the math. If Crosby was putting up a pt every 4:36 and is averaging 22 min a game, he'd have like 355 pts this season. Crosby is averaging 1.32 pts ppg and about 1 pt every 17:20 to Simmonds averaging about 1 pt every 21:40.

"2013-14 NHL Scoring-Per-Ice-Time Leader Is Not Who You May Think."

One of the underrated Very Funny Things about this blog post is that, in reality, the 2013-14 scoring-per-ice-time leader is EXACTLY who you think it is, a truth that is easily confirmed by the many NHL stats aggregation sites (such as extraskater.com) that provide such information at a glance.

I've been around here a while, so I should probably know better, but I'm actually kind of stunned this post is still up, with no kind of correction anywhere. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own crazy indefensible opinions, but when the entire point of your argument rests on a supposed "fact" that is very clearly wrong and very easily falsified, it sort of demands some sort of acknowledgment of error and a correction from the source. Or at least it should.

Embarrassing.

You would think. On the other hand it might just generate a few extra comments. Plus he's a very busy man and all.
