You say Crosby gets a point for every 4.36 minutes on the ice. Considering his ice time is 21:58 per game that means he averages almost 5 points per game? In reality he gets a point every 16 minutes or so on the ice.

Simmonds gets a point every 21.58 minutes, which is significantly worse than Crosby.

You would think that saying a guy gets a point every four minutes on the ice would be instantly caught by the filter of impossibility, but I guess not.

Rewrite that and try to have it make sense next time...

so it goes without saying his Points per minute played is going to be higher than players who do play in that role

As has been pointed out, Philly didn't trade Carter to LA. Further, your reason for why they were traded doesn't make a lot of sense considering the run the Flyers had with them.

Kopitar, Quick, Brown, Doughty, et al might have a few things to say regarding your conclusion.

Obviously Carter and Richards didn't win a cup on their own. However they were big reasons why they did.

I know Philly didn't trade him to LA either, but he won there. Something Homer was convinced couldn't happen with them in Philly. Which is fine if Philly eventually wins with this current core

Simmonds plays sheltered minutes along with the rest of our second line. A lot of team's secondary scoring units play sheltered minutes to maximize their usefulness. It's called "coaching".

I'm pretty sure that even a guy like Matt Read who can score shorthanded has his points per minute significantly decreased by his penalty kill time.

Simmonds does benefit by being on the Flyers top PP unit, no doubt about that. Either way, he's putting up some pretty good points and we'll take it.

The concept was wrong and the math was incredibly wrong: he took total points for the year and divided by ATOI per game (bad concept) which gives you average points per minute, not average minutes per point (bad math).
