A buddy's son plays for Dayton, who beat out the favoured Ohio State.
- paulr

Go look at Dayton Daily News front page - funny stuff

Especially because Matta will never play them. If you are OSU, you can't be afraid of other in state schools.

Love when these holier than though programs get bounced.

Hawks lose 4-2 tonight because... reasons.
- CBHawks88

No.

They well play a tight game knowing that 4 starters are out - I expect a 1/2 goal performance out of Crawford, and Hawks will score 3 on Cammie.

Hawks have $4.7M in cap space, even after adding TT and Morin. Can they sign some old phuck (not like me or Elbows) and play them in the playoffs? Let's get Nedved!

ENTRY DRAFT

How many rounds in the Entry Draft?

The Entry Draft will be reduced from nine rounds to seven rounds.

Will Compensatory draft picks still exist?

Yes. Clubs that lost a Group 3 free agent to another club between July 1 and September 15, 2004 will be eligible to receive a compensatory draft choice in the 2005 Entry Draft slotted on the same basis as under the expired CBA. Going forward, clubs will no longer receive compensatory draft choices for the loss of unrestricted free agents but will receive such choices for the loss of unsigned first-round draft picks.

Who is eligible for selection in the Entry Draft?

Draft eligibility rules will remain unchanged from the expired CBA (all players must be age 18 by September 15 in the year in which the Draft is held).

Will players still have to opt-in to Draft?

No. The Draft "opt-in" procedure has been eliminated.

- Fountain-San

Thanks Fountain, I think he was doing an imaginary scenario...yes and the draft has been seven rounds for awhile.

I am still not sure why you put this here...

Don't think the Wolfman would have been playing Hank Snow - maybe after talking to Richard Dreyfuss and giving him a popsicle.

Anyone know when/if Crow ever put up two shutouts in a row?

Also think multiple point night for Morin. And a super grumpy look on Q's face when he gets asked why he got sent down earlier in the year. Absolutely zero substantial evidence to back that statement up but that 3% shooting with the big club has to start normalizing at some point and it would provide me with a high level of personal entertainment value.

I'd settle for a multiple night from someone, or anyone. Hell, if the Hawks got multiple point nights from a few players tonight, that would be (frank)ing awesome.

I do understand the question and will address it as if the present Matt Carey was draft eligible (but after three drafts like Raanta becomes a free agent since they were not drafted.)

In my humble opinion about this specific draft year, after about pick 24 the draft is all iffy picks, and the forward class is smaller sized and less full of guys who finish. I just think teams are gonna have favorites and stick to forwards they have really found they like and bigger good skating defenders.
To me, and I may be alone in this opinion the second round is like a fourth round, especailly by the end.

Matt Carey would be a guy if draft age could go in the 2nd round or 3rd of this draft, because you are have glimpsed that he can score shoot and react offensively against higher competition.

If it was the soon to be 18 Matt Carey, in his real draft year, he would not have gotten drafted because a) he wasn't and b) that is because he played in the OJHL and wasn't really a huge standout to warrant it.

Now Raanta's true draft year 2007, and again he
That 2007 draft was one pretty weak one in terms of thickness, and in doing a re-draft
there weren't enough quality NHLers to fill a full 30 slots...http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/redraft/2007/
Raanta went to the army and played 13 games in 2007, so he wasn't on any radar, didn't turn pro until 2009 and while a junior had unimpressive totals with both Lukko and Suomi.

IF he had been on the radar, a stud, there was plenty of room for a team to take him quickly as none of the goalies in 2007 are guys who have lasted this long, not a one, so he would have gone early.

To ask if Raanta was in the 2013 draft where would he get taken, I would first say it was an uncanny thick good draft so it would be yet another good choice for teams.
The rub is Raanta was far closer than any players to the NHL except the ones from the 2013 draft you see playing in the NHL now.
You would have to count the attractiveness of a close to ready NHL candidate and whether the NHL is thin or hurting there...
I just looked at the 2013 results and even though I might think raanta gos before the Zack Fucale selection at 36, I think the Francophone nature of the fan base doesn't see the habs going Raanta over Fucale.
So the answer ot me is he could go in the early second but not to Montreal, lol, and would get picked before the penquins pick the real good prospect of Tristan Jarry because Rantta was more ready.
So second round for sure.

Now Leblanc in last years draft is a late third rounder and more likely a 4th round pick because that's where the players start being good quality trait guys but are missing parts of their game that requir more work to overcome them.
Up until 70's there are pretty well rounded players a tribute to the strength of the draft class.
In his draft year the Hawks might have seen Drew LeBalnc while he was with the Chicago steel, but he only played about 16 games and a half dozen points, not really what sells a scouting staff on selecting a player.

That was a fun mental exercise...I hope i understood the question and answered it with the answer you were looking for plus the real reason they were not selected in their draft years.

Thanks. Just what I was looking for. So the way I look at it, Hawks, due to their popularity of recent Cup success, have added a couple extra 2nd-4th rounders for free.

Or another way, they traded a 2nd round pick for Rundblat, and recovered that pick for free in the name of Carey.

Seems a bit unfair (but fine with me as we're on the positive end of that unfairness). Hawks have been gifted a couple extra mid-round picks over the last couple years. Probably more fairly done as in football. If a player becomes available outside the regular draft, teams have to bid a draft pick for him in a supplemental draft.

Thx again.

because of his assertion that players opt in. nothing in the conversation was about the amount of rounds in the draft.
