If the Hawks win the cup Hossa will probably retire.
- mrpaulish

As long as he's healthy, I think Hossa will play through the '15-'16 season. After that, his salary starts dropping off.

Shout out to Phil and Elbows, saw your replies to my last past of the evening.

OK, I'm not Rollie, but did this bit of stats investigation this am

Keith - overall 5G, 50A, 55 points total
PP 3G, 17A, 20 points total
5 on 5 2G, 33A, 35 points total

Seabrook - overall 6G, 32A 38 points total
PP 3G, 6A 9 points total
5 on 5 3G, 26A 29 points total

Leddy - overall 7G, 22A 29 points total
PP 4G, 6A 10 points total
5 on 5 3G, 16A 19 points total

IMO, the disparity of Keith's #'s are due to the incredible amount of TOI he gets on the PP compared to Leddy and Seabrook. Yet in spite of their limited TOI on PP, Seabrook and Leddy are clearly making the most of their chances.

Also, if anyone is clearly a leader it is Seabrook. Just look at his 5 on 5 #'s -- and almost every night he does not get the TOI that Keith does.

OK, talk amongst yourselves.

- savvyone-1

Nice analysis savvy. Always love people looking further in to the numbers that are there. The only thing about Keith's numbers, is he is averaging a much higher P/60 (which takes out the TOI discrepancy). On the PP, 2 5.65 P/60, 7 4.24 P/60, 8 4.55 P/60.

At evens, 2 1.52 P/60, 7 1.24 P/60, 8 1.08 P/60. 5v5, Leddy is still pretty far behind, but I think that's fairly evident watching the games. Keith plays less than a minute more at evens than Seabrook, so it's not really a huge difference. Plus Keith gets more SH, with him and Hammer getting the #1 minutes.

The TOI helps Keith's numbers, and I know you don't like him, but he's the best defenceman on the team, and he deserves/ needs to play those minutes. He's the clear leader by every metric, and I'm sorry, but he was a top pairing defenceman on team Canada, he's the best defenceman in the league, and is going to win his second Norris and pretty much lock up the HOF.

Edit: Also the idiot who writes the committed indian (sorry bows) called Leddy the third best defenceman on the team (he's not), might want to give that blog a check too

Why? He's having his best season as a Hawk. I think people sometimes underestimate how attached to hockey these guys are. It's all Marian Hossa's done for like the last 20 years of his life, if they win you think he walks away from more cups and a place in hockey history, I don't.

Agreed. I thin the only way Hossa retires is because he's injured to the point of he can't play any longer.

Hey, did you ever get my email?

I would swap Saad and Sharp. Give the undersized TT some size on both sides.
- NewToHockey

Sharp has more snarl to his game than Saad NTH. Also Sharp can drop them and go if needed. That is why I put him there.

A lot is made about the chances given and lack thereof to young players in the Hawk system. Many of us have a different point of view as to why certain players don't succeed under Q. However when you watch Bollig and Smith work hard, remain consistent, and play like they don't want to let go of their spot on the ice the answer is and will always be right in front of us.

Bollig & Smith, like Krugman and Shaw in the past get better every game. Smith, whom I thought was a bridge player like Morin & Pirri may have found a permanent spot on this year for the next few years. He will be cheap, works hard, and is versatile. Bollig, who I thought was a one dimensional player had also worked hard to strengthen his game and become a consistent asset to the team when he is on the ice.

I see a similar work ethic with a player like Nordstrom...who I think will grow into a more permanent spot on the roster next year.....

It's not so much being a Q guy as a few have stated but more being a guy Q trusts on the ice......and as shown he gives young players who work hard a fair chance.

- UnnamedSource

You love Nordstrom so much, hope he doesn't get traded to Florida Agreed on all other points though

Funny thing is that this bus would fetch darn near six figures..
- Beaver-Warrior

I think there is one version that would fetch more than 6 figures. a 22 window version or something like that. Very rare?

Oshie just got hurt blocking a shot. Seemed to take it off the hand/arm, and went immediately to the locker room.

Still 2-1 Flyers with 10 minutes left - Blues have hit 3posts in this period.

Perhaps the Hockey Gods are rethinking their position?

Definitely something we CAN agree on -- IMO, Seabs is the anchor of our D (and this coming from someone that wanted to trade #7 away because of his sleepwalking ways the year before last).

Elbows, you've commented MANY times about Keith leaving Seabs high and dry to cover for his gaffes.

**** I don't think Keith puts up those numbers this year if he had to skate every game with a different D partner every night ****

Would love to see Leddy paired with THIS YEAR'S Seabrook (not from 2 seasons ago when they did pair for a bit).

- savvyone-1

It was last season Savvy and that season was an aberration for many players due to the lockout. Seabrook was their best D-man between the Cups when Keith was floundering around. There is no one in the system and on this team that plays the same game as Seabrook. The guy is considered a top 15 D-man according to many polls.

I get your point to an extent about pairing Leddy with different partners. However, there is another way to look at it Savvy. Couldn't it mean that Q has confidence in Leddy's ability to adjust? Isn't it a way to accelerate the learning curve? And Leddy's biggest progression as a pro came from playing with a solid pro in Rozy. Trying to pair him with Seabrook weakens the team D. Leddy is no where close to Keith in his own zone yet. When all the best in the world gathered Keith was on the top pair on the top team for a reason Savvy.
Can Leddy get there? As a Hawk fan I sure hope so.
