Since January 1: 81 for 92 = 88.0%.
That should be almost #1.
Only 11 goals given up in the last 28 games. - StLBravesFan
I noticed that Sharp hasn't been used on the PK at all this year. In the past few seasons Sharp has averaged about 1 minute of PK time per game, not a lot but he certainly contributed. This season Sharp has played less than 2 minutes in the PK...all season long! I'm not complaining about our PK, I'm just surprised Q is using Sharp less. |

On the other hand: the franchise is getting a reputation of taking care of the "failures", not burying them in Rockford if they can play somewhere else, getting them to teams where they would have a good chance for ice time.
Signing here probably wouldn't hurt the career of a quality player who just didn't fit in here. - StLBravesFan
Also good points; I think the Hawks are a very well-run organization that "gets it" at all levels, and there are a ton of reason to choose them if you get the chance. But potential openings at the NHL level ain't one of them, imo. |

Hopefully Smith sticks around next season. Based on his play this year there is no reason he shouldn't, but whenever somebody is a free agent you never know what can happen. - DarthKane
He is a RFA after this season. I wouldn't worry about it one bit. |

I used to umpire baseball when I was young. Working with the youngest ages was often a nightmare because of the "Vicarious Parent". Things got much easier when I called games with high school and college age players, because the parents were less involved. The kids were rarely a problem at any age. |

I think it is the opposite - there are a lot of peripheral fans turned off by cheap shots (not talking about solid hits or even fights in the flow of the game), and I believe that stuff keeps the sport from growing further. I think that is the real reason for the safety crackdown in the past few years (potential lawsuits a factor, too). - mohel
Interesting POV. I would think there would be an opposite effect, that some peripheral fans would be entertained by the goon stuff, just as many NASCAR fans (a group that does not include me) are said by sociologists to be semi-consciously attracted to the potential thrill of a terrible crash...
... Would you prefer the NHL adopt a more Olympic style "zero tolerance" approach, with match penalties and automatic ejections? Either for fighting, or for extra-curricular shots that the refs decide are "cheap"?

I can see your point, and as interest in the sport grows, more of that will fade away.
I guess I'm talking from a smaller community perspective, where the population is predominately blue collar and undereducated. That type of fan, who hasn't been exposed to the sport of hockey usually shows up for the fights and hits, and that's about all they have interest in. It used to be that way in Rockford - and it still is to an extent. It's gotten better as more people have been exposed to the sport over the last 15 years, but it still does exist. - EKolb13
This statement is wrong on so many levels
How about rich people like to watch the unwashed beat the $hit out of each other
Now we have both ends economic curve covered |

No, I think they should just consistently enforce what they've got (especially on head shots) and get away from the outcome-based discipline, because it won't change behavior as it is based on luck.
I thought the physical nature of the Hawks - Blues game was great (and Philly the night before). |

I'm saying there is no economic or educational correlation with liking fighting
Doc emetic sure seemed to enjoy the Bickel fight where do you place him on both the economic and education scale |

Hoping Morin has a good showing with his opportunity
I don't think he stays with the hawks since I think he lacks the skating skills they want in a player but he can increase the hawks trade value for him with a good showing

Why use Sharp when Q has Hanzus to lose faceoffs and pretty much stand still in the 4 man box up top !!!!!!!!! I'm so sick of hearing what a great penalty killer Hanzus is with his long reach .... even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. I'm hoping this is his last hurrah and Quenneville wakes up in the playoffs and uses some speed to pressure the puck on the PK, like everybody does to us. ie..... Patrick Sharp !! |
