Interesting take on why Canadian teams haven't won a cup in forever and where the league should have each of the franchises.

I think that's what they're banking on with Laughton, Alt, Lauridsen, Hagg, Ghost, Morin, Manning, etc.
- jmatchett383

I think it's a pretty good bet that Laughton is on the team next Season. But the rest are question marks.

I know. If you have the time, its an interesting read. Talks about how the NHL would be much better if they had 3 teams in Toronto area, 2 in Montreal, 1 in Seattle and 1 in Quebec.

The Canadiens won a Cup in 1993. That is somewhat recent.

Statistically speaking, there is a 99.2% chance a Canadian team should have won at least 1 Cup over the last 20 years.

I would not consider two decades ago to be recent. They still had the glow puck to look forward to, for reference. Phones were still bolted to the wall, and regardless of the cost mail still required stamps rather than an internet connection.

From 84-93 Canadian teams won every Cup except two.

It's a thirty team league now, and there are 7 Canadian teams. If my gorilla math is correct less than 25% of the teams play in Canada. I think it's cyclical. There are going to be teams like the Canadiens, Islanders, Oilers, and Red Wings that are dynasties. Tough for other teams to crack through when there are dominant teams. If the Hawks win the Cup this year, they are headed towards a dynasty.

Well sabers saying they want 2 top line prospects for first overall. Maybe Laughton and morin and our first for ekblad. I would do it.
- SchennBros

I don't know if Morin fits the bill for the kind of prospect they're looking for.

an article from last year. i couldn't get through it all...

this was posted today and is from the captain obvious department. i'm not sure why this needs an article, with relatively little data, when anyone who's even a casual hockey fan since the 80s can see the difference and the reason why. i found the gretzky hi-lite clip amusing. goaltending was truly awful back in his prime.

I thought the more interesting part was where the most profitable teams would be.

Yes, goaltending was awful.
So were the wooden sticks compared to the composite ones today.
So were the gloves he wore which severely restricted his stickhandling/shooting.
So was the fact that teams were allowed to clutch/grab/slash him all day long.
So was the fact that the 2-line rule existed in his career.

And the goalie at 1:12 is awful
