Yeah, I don't think either team is doing that trade.

If I'm the Flyers I might do it if the first overall is a lock of a stud.

Rosehill was traded for. I mean they should dedicate more money to that area. I would like to see better players. Hall is a decent positional player and good on face-offs, but he can't skate, can't handle the puck and isn't good in space. I wish they could upgrade with a guy like Malhotra.
- PhillySportsGuy

I watched Malholtra a lot in Vancouver. He's a lot of Adam Hall, but I agree in that I'd like to see them upgrade their fourth line a bit more.

Teams won't trade the top pick if its a stud. I like Ekblad a lot, but I just feel the team needs system depth more than 1 high end prospect.

But not yet.

Look back at Read's first season and come back to the thread. Raffl's had the opportunity to play every where in the lineup and that's saying a lot for him. Matt Read had a 20 goal season his first year @ the same age.

If he had that in him Downie would be playing on the fourth line already.

- mayorofangrytown

Raffl is an offensive player. He just doesn't have the type of shot that Read has. He is more a possession guy and passer. I think he plays better when he gets more minutes like Read does and that why he plays somewhat awkward and sloppy on the fourth line.

Comparing him to Read had more to do with his versatility. He can play all over the lineup. 4th line, top line, checking line. He can play all forward positions, on the PK and I bet he would be just fine on the PP.
- PhillySportsGuy

Let's be honest here. I agree that Raffl is a versatile player. But honestly, he can fill in short term on a higher line. If he's on the top line for a significant period of time, the talk would then turn to the Flyers needing an upgrade in that spot. Read scored 24 goals as an NHL Rookie coming out of College. I think Raffl has the potential to be a solid 3rd line NHL Winger, who can play on the PK, and chip in offensively. And play a sound all around game. But we'll see if there is more there then that.

If they spend more money on the 4th line, then they have spend less somewhere else. Where should the cut spending at to pay more for the 4th line?

4th line is where I put the best prospects we have. Allow them to earn more ice time etc.

They are trying to accomplish this by building their defense corps through the draft. Which is obviously where our team wastes the most money.

I agree, but having a 3rd line player who can fill in on the top line for a couple of weeks is a valuable commodity.

He has 20 points in 54 games this year despite playing with mostly 4th line talent (if you even want to call them that)

More importantly he is a +2 playing with -13 Rinaldo and -14 Hall.

I like Raffle a lot but lets keep it realistic in here. He is a bottom 6 forward at best. Nothing wrong with that at all.
- Flyersgod

he's a top 9 forward at worst.

He has a NMC, so you can try that option but can't guarantee it.

I wouldn't trade Lecavalier so they can spend more on the 4th line. Now if they needed to do so, to add a top defenseman, then I'm on board.

If there was another option pushing him for playing time, maybe he wouldn't be so stupid. The extra forwards on the roster are Rosehill/Vande Velde. Two guys who aren't NHL players.
He's been a complete waste of time since being brought back here. Zero offense, (3 goals in 46 games) and one stupid, mindless penalty after another. They are winning with him in the lineup, so I guess Berube should leave well enough alone.

- PLindbergh31

If they wanted, they could let Tye McGinn play RW or shuffle a couple guy's over to RW and let McGinn play LW.

Don't see why McGinn would be a bad NHL 4th liner

Well, apparently, McGinn's injured right now. Also, though it's a somewhat unreliable stat, for a "defensive" guy, he has the worst +/- of any Phantoms forward. So I doubt he's a lock for a call-up any time soon.

I don't think he's responsible enough to be a reliable 4th liner.

I honestly don't know how the Flyers view him. But at some point the Flyers are going to need some help from the farm and a few low cost players to fill out the roster.

I think that's what they're banking on with Laughton, Alt, Lauridsen, Hagg, Ghost, Morin, Manning, etc.
