This team is capable of playing at a high level.
If they're up on their skates for the next 2 weeks, they'll be firmly entrenched in the playoff picture.
The talent is certainly there. The pieces are there. Let's see if they can stay out of the box, and keep playing with that resilient attitude that not many other teams have. Even the Blackhawks.
No reason this team can't bang out 6+ wins in regulation over the next 12 games. - Giroux_Is_God
This team has talent, which makes them a dangerous team to play against for the real "contendors", but this team just isn't where it needs to be yet to be a year in and year out top team.
IMO here is what this team needs.
1. Balanced Defense. Going to need 1 more top defenseman, maybe not a #1 guy, but someone good. But more importantly the defense needs to have a perfect balance of stifling defenders and puck movers. MacDonald helps, but one of Grossmann or Schenn should be moved.
2. Scoring winger. I really think this team is built with too many net crashers and passes and not enough guys that can just "Snipe" the puck. We just need one of those so we dont always have to depend on board work or cross-ice passes to score.
3. Bottom 9. I would really like to see the 3rd line become more of a shutdown line with some scoring pop. With Couturier and Read its close... Maybe Laughton on this line would complete that. But more important I would like to see a 4th line of guys that are defensively responcible, and an energy line. I think the days of the "Dan" line are gone, but I think back to the Lappy-Betts-Carcillo 4th line and think that is what we need. |

Every time we have seen a tough road trip/schedule portion on the horizon, the doom and gloom has ramped up. And each time this team has risen to he occasion. I think once again this team will surprise the naysayers and vindicate those who have faith in them.
I predict they will come out of this stretch with a winning record.

No doubt, the Flyers road to the playoffs is gonna be a long tough haul.
However, they almost always play Pittsburgh well and I think they take at least 2 out of 4 points this weekend. Also by the time they play Boston, the Bruins will be locked into 1st or 2nd in the conference and may not be as focused as a team still trying to get in. The same may also apply to St. Louis.
Either way, I think they will need at least 93 points, and possibly 95 to guarantee a spot, so they will need to go say 10-5-2 to lock up a spot.

Yesterday I did some quick calculations on what the standings would look like if you gave 3 points for regulation win, 2 points for OT win, 1 point for SO win, and Zero for any loss.
Just take a look at how things shape out in the east.

Great story. Can recall being around that age here (buffalo) wearing a Lindros jersey to a flyers vs. sabres game and getting a beer spilled on me while some moron yelled something. Some people get a little over the top considering its a game, that theyre not even playing in |

If they cant go 10-5-2 or 9-6-2 then do they deserve to be there anyways??? for the most part they are playing very good playoff teams....they have ability to ramp it up....now its time to prove are we a pretender or contender? |

Agreed
They have the talent, provided they can stay reasonably healthy through this stretch, to get the job done. The question is do they have the will and determination to see it through.

What I like about it is there are fewer teams squished together. Would have made more sellers at the TDL, which also means more players available and the "supply and demand" goes down drastically, meaning more player movement.
But just because the teams aren't squished together doesnt mean there isnt room for movement because the teams like the Flyers who would be in solid playoff spot as either a division winner or wild card would not be getting loser points. And if the Flyers go on a losing streak and thier compettion who is several points behind wins games in regulation... you can easily jump 6 points in the standings. |

In your opinion how many games of these are winnable with 20 or 40 minute efforts?
And when was the last time the Flyers put together a solid performance for 60 minutes?

To fans of the 3-point win idea:
http://www.sbnation.com/n...ndings-three-point-system - Tomahawk
3 pt regulation win
2 pt OT win
1 pt SO win
0 points for any loss....wonder what the standings would look like then. Dont see a need to give out a point for a loss. I dont care if a game is worth 1 pt or 3 pts. you want the points....earn it in regulation |
