I don't really understand all of the frustration with the Salary Cap.

New Jersey will clear 11.5 in cap room at the end of the season by getting rid of Zidlicky, Brodeur, and Volchenkov.

They'll clear another 9 million the year after with Ryder, Brunner, and Salvador.

That's all before the cap rises.

Gaborik, Cammalleri, Stasny, and and Boyle are the only pending UFA players that made above $6.5mil per season.

The 5.0-6.4m range consists of

Vanek, Miller, Michalek, Timonen, Markov, Mezsarjos, Brodeur, Heatley, Gionta and Hemsky.

Not a lot of guys on that list that fit into the system. The Devils aren't the "bidding war" type, so forget about Callahan and Moulson.

The cap situation....is not a problem.

Say what you will about Ruutu's injuries and lack of goal scoring this year. I think that has quite a bit to do with the Hurricanes offensive change to more of speed game. No coincidence they asked for a player like Loktionov. Each player goes to a team where they're a better fit.

By the way, it is also worth noting that Ruttu played very well in the Olympics and was an integral part of the teams success.

The bottom line is is this team now better? I think so.

What did you expect him to do? He pulled a Kovy deal once (most likely at the request of Vanderbeek) and look how that worked out. Plus, they have very limited assets and I don't see them mortaging their D prospects unless it's absolutely worth it

- jtirri

I agree we shouldn't mortgage the future since we have little prospects and even less draft picks so I'm thinking the Devils should of "sold off" some players.....and btw the Kovy trade worked out great, got us to a SCF, I would do that trade 100 out of 100 times if a player like that was available and we gave up Bergfors, Oduya, Cormier (sp?) and a 1st.

If it makes Jagr happy and he resigns and makes Elias play better I'll bring him back.....just buy out A-Train and let Fayne walk.

Fayne is better than volchenkov and salvador though. He doesn't suck.

Agree but I want to leave spots open for Gelinas, Merrill and Larsson next year (figuring Salvador, Greene, Harrold will be here) and a resigned Zidlicky.

Lamoriello said Carolina retained some salary in the Ruuta trade.

I hope the pissing and moaning about all of this keeps going. Makes it sound like we traded for cancer this deadline.

Yet another failed deadline by Uncle Lou. Wonder if after we miss the playoffs for the 3rd time in 4 years if he will finally effin retire. He hasnt built a solid team in 10 years hope Josh Harris recognizes this.

He can score 20 ? I would love to see him score 20 he has 5 goals right now no where near on pace for twenty and likely will be in the same boat next year. Lou can't do no wrong... Yea he has been a fantastic gm but he has made bone head moves and poop went bad with Parise and Kovy but he was in control of choosing to draft matteau he was in charge of Clowe's crazy contract he has made some big mistakes
- blizzzard

He's here for all of next year and could very well play on the top line. 20 is definitely possible. Plus it was only 4 years ago he got 26 on a mediocre team.

It's still not a conclusion that Matteau is a bust. I personally think he's going to be a pretty good power forward once he matures and learns how to control his emotion. Plus, the draft next year (where the devils forfeit) is one of the worst drafts on paper in a long time. The year after, that's another story

Do you forget the SCF? And Harris could care less. He's only concerned with the operating revenue for the Prudential Center he acquired

I actually like what Ruutu brings. He's instantly the most aggressive player on the team and that might open up some ice... err, for the non-scorers... to not score.

I can't believe what some the guys like Vanek and Moulsen or some one like Legwand cost. Sebastian Collberg and a pick for Vanek? Don't know if Collberg is good, but on paper that is terrible. I am fine with the Ruutu trade and hope that they eat at least 30%. With our system, I feel Ruutu will be a great upgrade over Lokti or JJ on the third line. We pretty much replace Lokti's non production with Ruutu, who's game fits better with Clowe's than Lokti's. He may be slower than Lokti, but with our system he be fine. Would of loved to add Vanek, Moulsen, Statnsy(not traded), or Legwand as well becuse they really didn't cost that much, but I like this.

I didnt forget the SCF but that team wasnt built by Lou it came from Vanderbeek pushing Kovy on us which ended up ruining us. Not to mention that wasnt even that good a team we made it to finals yes but dont forget when we did we bumped into an actual good team in the LA Kings and they showed us what time it was. I recently moved from NJ to CA was going to pay for NHL package but after today im quite happy I didnt Marty is last of the team i choose to root for looks like its time to start tuning into LA and Anahiem games

I forgot it was Van who claimed Carter off waivers, traded for Poni, decided to call up Gionta, drafted Larrsson and Henrique, signed undrafted Clarkson, traded for Zid, PTO'd Bernier, signed Sykora, among other details like drafting players and signing players, and trading for players years before the cup run. All Vanberbeek. And you seem to forget that we actually made it a series losing in 6 because of Bernier's hit. But you know a team that wins two and could of came back from three nothing in a series was a bad team compared to the teams the Kings beat out in the West, like the Blues that only won 1 game. We were the toughest team the Kings faced based on the fact that we almost came back, whereas no other "contending" team out west could do.

Showed us what time it was? If the Devils catch one break in games 1 or 2 it definitely goes 7 and they may have won the cup. Sounds like you still haven't gotten over your love of Cali.
