I see a deal we could swing with Montreal and there is a former Penguin in charge there. - Oneonta Penguin
Isn't Marc Bergevin play for just about every team lol?
But he did grow up with Mario... |

Even though it was an inside deal...
Thanks EJ! - rival22
I think some writer in Hartford put it this way...
Eddie Johnson said he came to the Whalers to win the cup. We just didn't know he meant the team winning would be Pittsburgh... Something like that. |

I'm convinced they're going to try very hard to extend him. They almost have to with all the uncertainty with Letang, and I'm convinced Despres is gone by the draft. - madmike71
He'll be gone by 3pm tomorrow. |

Interesting tidbit to add to the Kesler talk, as reported by no one if traded for, Bylsma plans on playing Kesler on the first D pairing with Orpik.
Iginla approves. - nbartley9
One of your best efforts. That was funny. |

That is where I'm getting at. I used to be able to reel off the teams he played for, but now, nope. Maybe 7 ... He was the 1990s version of Corey Stillman. |

No offense and not bashing you ... people always mention Orpik's contract may be off the books. It's not money Pittsburgh can reinvest. It's already been spent on the Letang extension. Letang's 3.75 increase is exactly what Orpik is being paid now. So, that doesn't help. It's almost a requirement that Orpik doesn't come back to make up the difference.
I'm interested to see what Sutter would be signed for as a RFA. He would likely get an increase. How much? I have no idea. - Oneonta Penguin
The cap is going up though which is key. Also, vokouns contract could possibly come off next year too. Also Engelland possibly depending what they do with him. A Bennett-kesler-megna 3rd line wouldn't be bad.
The capgeek armchair GM thing is pretty cool. I got a full roster with 1 mil in cap to spare, with Letangs contract and giving nisk a 4.3 mil cap hit. I added kesler, but took off sutter, engelland and vokoun |

Panthers trade Mike Weaver to the Habs for a 5th round pick in 2015.

Have Boston over pay for him and cbj can have the tools to get better. In 2-3 years they may be an eastern contender |

Honest opinion ... I'm going to guess right now Engo is kept and resigned. He has given the Pens some amount of versatility between defense and 4th line and would come cheap. I would be a fool to compare him to Burns, but he has added some production to a fourth line when he is out there.
Right now, you have just under 16 million in play money and have 14 under contract. That may sound like alot of $$$ to go play with, but it really isn't when you look at what we need. This wouldn't account for any figures on Despres or Sutter, if they aren't dealt due to being RFAs. |

Gaborik has skill, but to me he seems to be disruptive.
I love Columbus' direction and now they have a great management team and a very good GM with an eye for drafting talent. They very well could be a contender in 2-3 years.

Don't forget that cap is going up probably 6+ mil. Plus orpik's contract may be off the books and if sutter is traded for Kesler, then it's only about a 3 mil difference. It could easily be done - drummer829
I think it is possible but not probable. Ultimately it comes down to what does Niskanen want to do, stay here where he seems to have found his game, or go seek out the money? Same with Jokinen, stay and keep playing with Malkin and Neal or go see if he can get a bigger deal in free agency. Those are two pretty big question marks right now for the Pens this offseason. And depending on the answers, could be $6 - 8 million in cap space gone or available. |

I'd like to have Engelland back at around what he's making now, but I fear that one of those teams like Edmonton or Calgary who can never get enough toughness, will offer him more than he can make here. |

Free agency can go in a number of directions. It will be very interesting to see who stays and who walks |

Who knows with Niskanen... This could be the best shot that he'll ever have at really cashing in...
But Jokinen was on the verge of being sent to the AHL, and then goes to playing on a line with Malkin & Neal. That has got to me worth something to him.
He's got to realize at 30, if he stays here for a couple seasons where he puts up 50 pt seasons, he could still get a nice payday somewhere after that. |

And I believe he's from Alberta. Edmonton.
I also would love to re-sign him for $600K.
Niskanen is a very good 3rd Pairing guy to me. An average one as a 2nd Pairing. I wouldn't want to pay more than $4M on him. |

That's the feeling I have too, that Jokinen is more likely to stick around and take a little less than to try and max out in free agency, but even then, what does he want to stay? His same $3 Million, maybe slightly less, maybe slightly more? I wouldn't want to give him more. I would like to settle somewhere between his full $3 Million and the $2.1 Million we are paying him somewhere around $2.5-$2.75. |

When brandon sutter hits someone, it looks like he is giving them a hug.
Def dont want stall back, i hold grudges.
Kesler is a decent option but at 5 mil a year, that is expensive for a bottom 6 guy. So i guess he plays wing with crosby and our bottom 6 does nothin to improve. Doesnt make alot of sense.
None of these trade rumors make any sense for the pens. |
