He won't make it to the Pens.

They will both get claimed before the Pens have a chance. Veteran defensemen are at a premium right now. They would fit some needs for us as the Pens go down the stretch. |

honest question, why the need for a centre upgrade, is sutter not cutting it? - DDM-Coga
Sutter is fine as a third line center. When people talk about upgrades replacing a capable third line center shouldn't be one of them considering the holes on this team. That's what he is and nothing more yet some feel he should be putting up points like a top six. Compare him to other third line centers around the league and see if theirs are remarkably better. They aren't. |

If they keep selling guys off for draft picks, they might have to claim everyone on waivers today |

Can you make a trade when a guy is on waivers? Send a 7th round pick to Ottawa for Conacher, then Ottawa at least gets something, and the Pens really don't give anything up. |

Conacher will likely get claimed before the Pens, but if nothing much happens between now and noon tomorrow for Shero, like you said, I'd swap him out for Gibbons at this point. - rival22
That's announced at noon right? Gives Shero 3 hours to find a 3rd liner if we don't get him |

As far as Staal returning I would rather pay $6 million a year to a guy to play RW Crosby than for a third line center. I've always liked Staal but he left for a reason. |

That is the surprising thing... Gotta think that Bryan Murray at least asked around about Conacher before waiving him. Maybe nobody does want him. |

No, my logic isn't flawed. I'm not a Letang fan for starters. I wasn't before his stroke either. He isn't worth 7.25 million per year based on his play (careless with the puck all the time) and always seems to be in the press box watching because he is injured. You realize, Letang will have missed 100 games in the last three years due to injuries if he is out for the rest of the season? He is fragile.
Sid on the other hand keep returning to the lineup and plays at a high level.
You call it double standard, I call it common sense. When the best player in the world gets injured; sits and then comes back playing like he did before injury at a high level and produces ... nothing to see here genius. Letang isn't Crosby. He isn't even on the same planet.
Who would you give the benefit of the doubt to ... the best hockey player in the world, or a fragile defenseman that is often overrated and soon to be making 7.25 million per year. The answer is pretty obvious. - Oneonta Penguin
You are failing to miss the point, this isnt comparing Crosby and Letangs talent level, you gave all your reasons why you want to move 1 player, while yes a more talented player he is, has all the same conditions attached to him as well, so if your logic isnt flawed, you would have to look at moving the other player "for long term benefits of the team assets and cap space".
And dont worry I can argue with you all day saying how you have created a contrudiction upon yourself and you will only counter argue with "Sid is the best and I dont like Letang". Until you bring something more meaninful to your counter arguement, you just look like a 14 year old fan boy who is pouting that no one agrees with your assement with Letang, your norris nominated dman |

yeah I had that clarified to me, thought he regressed or somtehing, had no idea that Maatta just jumped a few levels and blew him out of the water at training camp to win a spot - DDM-Coga
To be fair they have different games ... Maata is solid on d. ... It's almost like watching a six year veteran with a developing offensive game... Poulliot is more like a karlson but with some wholes in his defensive game ... The organization views them as a potential top pairing 3 years down the road. |

Is there some strategy involved to get him to Buffalo. Aren't they first in line? There's the reported rumors of Stewart going to Ott. |

Maybe... they'd be first with the worst record. Murray can appear to have a better deal for Stewart, even though he gave Conacher to them too... interesting theory. |

With Martin out for a month and letang possibly for the year I don't see Colorado and pittsburgh making a move ... Pitt does not have the veteran d man to spare ... Depres could be useful... But for mccginn??? Neither organization is making that move... Just not good dance partiners at this point . |

This is one of the best posts I've seen when it comes to discussing Sutter. People fail to also remember who he is centering. He truly is centering AHL or fourth line in the NHL talent. He hasn't had consistent line mates due to injuries.
Third line centers aren't guys that score 20-25 goals per year.
I would love to see Sutter have decent third line wingers for an extended period of time before people judge. Hell, Crosby's line is floundering a bit because its third wheel is a guy that should be on the Pens third line at best or even in the AHL. |
