So, a guy that would be a third line player her is worth Pouliot plus? People truly need their heads examined. He isn't worth Pouliot straight up - Oneonta Penguin
I didnt say Pouliot plus. I said Depres with a kicker bc I thought he is just a 3rd pairing guy right now. ANd I didnt know how highly regarded Pouliot was, so setttle down.
And McGinn isnt just a third liner, he can play the wing anywhere in the Top 9 and contribute, he is best suited on a good third line or the 2nd line |

Don't let him bother you, he thinks he is some kind of mind reading genius that knows all of the right moves and knows what every NHL GM is thinking going into this deadline. |

Hooray, here comes Oneonta to come tell everyone how stupid they are and that he knows/cares more about the Penguins than you. - PensFan1103
There is nothing I've said that is wrong. Jordan Staal has played a bigger role on the Canes and has failed to live up to his billing. 6 million for a guy that would essentially be a third line center that doesn't produce offensively is a joke. Anyone who thinks this would be a great idea, probably someone like you, lacks serious hockey IQ. |

He was supposed to be drafted at 6th overall but got hurt and lost a few positions. But yeah nobody expected him to make the team this year let alone be one or our best on the ice every night. - Orpik44
It's funny, instead of Pouliot, the Staal trade might have actually got us Maatta.
The reaction at the time was that the Pens reached a bit on Pouliot at #8 and he might have been there at #22. If the Pens didn't have the other pick, they likely would have taken Pouliot at #22 even if Maatta was still sitting there. |

No, I happen to know values of people more than most, like yourself on this board. It doesn't take a master's degree in being a GM to know common sense. Maybe you should try earning your high school degree in hockey values. It would be a great start for you.
Serious question and use logic if you have any ounce in you ... what value does Jordan Staal have to Pittsburgh with that contract he has knowing he would play third fiddle again, a role he didn't want? |

No, someone with common sense. Anyone who thinks Jordan Staal is an answer in Pittsburgh again at that contract needs their head examined. Ray had common sense to dump him. - Oneonta Penguin
Shero offered him that exact same contract before he traded him. I certainly wouldn't send back what we got for him. |

The sad thing ... I think you are serious.
Jordan Staal as a third line center making six million for the next eight years isn't the answer. 21 goals, 37 assists in 109 games for the Canes with better wingers than he had here? You need your head examined. - Oneonta Penguin
We are bringing back something that worker well for us in a near past.
Plus You'd be happy to see your whipping boy Letang traded for assets in the near future.

Yeah... I thought we might see a flurry after the Olympic trade freeze, but besides the Buf/St. Louis deal, we haven't got crap.

I think the times have changed a bit, don't you think? Letang was making 3.75 or whatever at the time and now he will be at 7.25. Jordan Staal went to carolina; proved he isn't that good of a second line center; doesn't produce with better winers and people think 6 million for a third line center for the next XXX years is good value? He has one of the worst contracts in the league now based on his production. |

That contract made me very nervous at the time. 6 mil, 8 or 9 more years for a guy that's failing to get to the 40 point mark. Umm.... |

It is really easy to understand your philosophy. Trade nothing and get nothing in return. The only trades you like are for rentals because you assume we won't have to give much up to get them, but the costs so far for rentals is pretty damn high, so we aren't getting Hemsky for a 3rd or Moulson for a 3rd and mid range D prospect. You are so hypocritical, you rag on Shero for poor asset management, but then the only moves you advocate are rentals, which is the exact opposite of good asset management. For rentals you are giving up future assets to take a chance at a cup now. At least with guys like Kesler and Staal you are giving up assets while acquiring someone who will be here for more than this year.
But go ahead keep calling me and other Pens fans stupid for at least considering options to improve the team now and for the future. |

I love your logic, you are saying you have higher hockey IQ on here by knowing the true value of your teams assets but then you argue that to another teams fan base who have spent more time watchign their team play, that they dont know the value of their assets.

Think ahead ... Letang with a contract for 7.25 million; had a stroke and is as fragile as hell and you think he is tradeable now? God help us.
6 million for a third line center that isn't productive anymore is a huge contract to take on. If the Letang contract didn't burry the Pens enough, the Staal deal would. He doesn't have Cooke and TK on that line either. He would have worse wingers than he had here and Pittsburgh couldn't upgrade on that line with ridiculous contracts. I hate to say this ... Sutter at his value >> Staal at his.
You realize he centers Jeff Skinner, right? He has a whopping 11 goals and 27 points with a pretty good goal scorer with him. Those are pedestrial numbers. |
