Who here is comfortable with Sutter making 4M per season? Because that is the kind of cap hit he is looking at in his new deal. - Ryan_Wilson
I don't think that it would take $4 mil, but probably 2 x $3.25-$3.35 or something like that.
Besides one good year in 2009-10, he's a 30 point center who's an RFA. |

no. i loved #11 when he was here but his complaints were that he wanted to play on a team with a brother and that he didnt want to be the 3rd line center. the reasons he left still exist. unless he has changed his mind?? Canes and Pens have been good trading partnes. Maybe they want that draft pick back that they gave up to get Staal??
maybe he wants to play on a team with another brother so its callahan for staal? NYR wants to pay Callahan $6M/yr so.... - i'mjustafan
A few straight years of missing the playoffs and losing might have changed his mind. One of those "grass isnt always greener scenarios". Think he has more fun losing with his brother than playing in the playoffs and bringing the cup home to show off to his brothers in the offseason? |

I have a very difficult time believing this. The only way the Canes cut salary is by removing Ward and Ruutu. My best guess is that Dreger let this slip as a favour to Shero or some other GM to potentially drive down the asking price for Kesler.
J.Staal has been just fine and would be even better if he weren't playing with 4th line talent. - BINGO!
Above all, in these next two days, lets keep this in mind. Anything leaked is leaked with a reason for someone. |

I think they have to move him if they know they cant resign him. We wont match up well against the hawks if weo dnt have him, but I cant see us getting past them either regardless. Just nice to get back to the dance, only way we move on is if Varly steals us that series.
Move him, get the assets, and look at balancign out the roster in the offseason probably is the best and correct option - DDM-Coga
Would love to get McGinn from the Av's. What would that take? I've always thought our teams would be good trade partners. Unfortunately, we're pretty beat up on the blue line so maybe not anymore. |

McGinn could be shopped, I bet we could look at moving him a better D prospect like Pouliot, or a Despres plus a kicker.
Avs apparently are only looking for young d who have term on their contracts or are pending RFAs. Kulikov is the perfect example of that target |

Pens won't give us Pouliot for Kesler but you want him for McGinn. |

wasnt the trade for Staal a first round pick, doumolin and sutter? the pick ended up being pouliot right? so do the pens offer sutter, pouliot and and doumolin back for staal since he signed for the $6M/yr that shero originally offered? holy "undo" button if that were to happen. |

He's considered to have the ability to be a top 4 defenseman and qb the pp. Showed really well for Canada in the WJC and has improved his defensive game. I think he's a highly regarded prospect |

No chance. Exchange Pouliot for Despres or a first and it might happen. |

Pouliot is in the Letang mold with a similar upside. He's a significantly above meh prospect and could be NHL ready next year or the following year. |

Maatta came out of no where. We all knew he was a good junior defenseman but he is poised and works very hard. Couldn't have predicted that |

Maybe you are mixing up Mantha with Määttä haha
|
|
|

Haha that would be one for the ages!
They would ask for Pouliot, no doubt.
Sutter, Pouliot and a 1st or Sutter, Despres and a 1st. - Orpik44
The sad thing ... I think you are serious.
Jordan Staal as a third line center making six million for the next eight years isn't the answer. 21 goals, 37 assists in 109 games for the Canes with better wingers than he had here? You need your head examined.

So, a guy that would be a third line player her is worth Pouliot plus? People truly need their heads examined. He isn't worth Pouliot straight up

He was supposed to be drafted at 6th overall but got hurt and lost a few positions. But yeah nobody expected him to make the team this year let alone be one or our best on the ice every night. |
