Have to imagine Ducks are making a play for a top-6 winger. Vanek makes a lot of sense there. Have cap space. |

Add Gibbons as center, and we could have a third line that can also play in those mini mite games during the intermission - rival22

True. And Vanek would be a good replacement after this year. |

If guys like Penner and Robidas going for mid round picks, the Pens could certainly fill a couple of depth holes. |

Hearing Kesler is down to Pitt and Philly
I just don't get why Philly would need him at the assets it would cost to get him? |

I feel that Philly is only there to drive up price, but I don't think that works with Shero, he knows what he is willing to offer and I don't think he goes above that based on another team's interest. If Philly were to get him, that would be a pain to have Crosby going up against him a few times a year, especially if they keep Couturier. Couturier line matched up against Malkin, Kesler line matched up against Crosby. I like it if I am a Philly fan, but we shall see what either team actually gives up if it happens. |

Philly sees the samething we do a big physical talented player. Do they have more needs on the back end? Certainly. Do we have different needs we should address as well? Certainly. Kesler's don't become available to often |

Holmgren is taking a page out of the Shero playbook. I don't think Kesler is a need in Philly, although he is a fit, but he is either driving up the cost or trying to keep Kesler from Pittsburgh, like Shero did with Boston with Iggy.
With Giroux, Vinny, the next Ron Francis, Brayden Schenn, there isn't a need, unless Kesler centers the fourth line. I kid.
If Philly is serious, this probably leads them to trade B. Schenn or Couterier, and Laughton and a 1st. That is a steep price. |

He's as fast as Big Mac but with decent hands.
Thomas, Brodeur and Halak...really? - Orpik44
Ek, being Ek ... thinks the Pens are in on everyone.
Conventional wisdom says Pittsburgh has bigger pieces of need. However, what make Halak an interesting debate is this ... Fleury bombs again in the play-offs and he has one more year on his contract at 5 million. Could a compliance buyout happen with Flower, which the Pens haven't used one yet,and thus Halak becomes a signee not a rental? Broduer or Thomas really don't do anything for me.
HMMM ... Joey Mullen's son just traded to Ottawa. |

Where did this Shero did the Iginla deal to keep him from boston coming from? He did the deal because when a player with a NTC says he wants to come to your team for 2 non prospects and a 1st round pick, and you have a ton of cap space, you do the deal, 100 out of 100 times. |

Halak is interesting if Fleury craps the bed again... But you would think that would be a summer move. |

Probably no doubt Pitt tries to claim Conacher, unfortunately the odds are slim, top of the east, 24 teams will have priority. |

There were alot of people on this board who felt this way, me included. Iggy didn't fit into the grand scheme of things here. He really made no sense after Brendan Morrow was acquired. The offense was the top in the NHL and the power play was too. Iggy doesn't improve that. There was no plan on how to use him. If this was a "hockey deal" for Pittsburgh, a plan would have been in place and he would have been used properly.
Boston was our key competition for the East. The Iggy sweepstakes came down to Boston and Pittsburgh. Coincidence? I say not.

Yes, it would be a summer move, but you do have an advantage. You would have already formed a connection with him; he would know the room; he would know the city. Not saying this should happen by any means as a first round be going back, but in the back of everyone's mind when you consider Fleury's problems in the play-offs in recent years, this could be a reason as to why he is being "considered." Have no idea if he is, but ...
