Fair points. Well taken. A big dman like Morin is going to take a while to develop, grow into his body etc... The disappointment I have isn't with Morin himself, it's the fact it's going to take a good amount of time for the pick to pay dividends.

For some reason I'm worried the Flyers see a young Pronger in Morin, and that's why they picked him. The odds of him becoming anything close to Pronger are astronomical. Of course he doesn't have to be Pronger to be a very good player.

I don't see why there is a reason to be worried that the Flyers see a young Pronger in Morin. He's going to wind up the player that he's going to be. He doesn't have to be Pronger to be a good pick. I have zero worries with Morin, nor do I have any sense of disappointment with the pick. How could I?

I'm less worried about the time he'll take to get here, especially considering they have Ghost and Alt and Gus ahead of him in the pipeline... my real worry is that he might not end up being a good player at all and guys behind him like Morrissey turning into studs... shades of the Rangers taking McIlrath with Fowler still on the board because he was huge++, mean, with the ubiquitous 'untapped offensive upside'.

Exactly my fears. I was hoping for more a "sure thing" with the pick. I almost view Morin as a lottery ticket.

I think the issue with the Morin pick, at least with a few of us, was that he wasn't really thought of as an offensive d-man. As well as seeming to be farther away to crack the lineup than others.

We shall see what happens. The temper is nice to see.

I was Xfinity Live for the draft. No one in the place reacted to the pick until they should his highlights, which were all big hits and fights. Then the place erupted. I cant even begin to describe how annoyed that made me.

I'm by no means disappointed by the pick, but I do hope his game comes together to be the D man we need him to be.

I don't dislike the pick per say. Lots of variables with dmen of this size. You don't see a ton of them develop. Tyler Myers for example still struggling 5 years into his NHL career.
- PLindbergh31

I think Buffalo is ready for a pillage. Much like Calgary of last year, I would look at the Sabres if the Flyers really want to deal.

Not for Ehrhoff as much, but Pysyk and Myers.

I haven't seen much of Morin admittedly, he does have a mean streak from everything I've read, can't teach the height and reach, and he skates pretty well for young, big kid.

I believe he's been suspended 3 times already this year, so it seems maturity is an issue. The offense will probably be the last thing to come at the NHL level. That's probably at least 6-7 years away. Time will tell. I hope Morin is a future stud.

The only thing I would have liked, is for them to take a guy with more of an offensive game as part of his calling card. Those are the rare d-men in the league today.

How the hell is he a young Pronger? He will never be Pronger. They're not even comparable skill wise at this age.

Morin - QMJHL - 108 games - 24 points - 174 PIM
Pronger - OHL - 124 games - 139 points - 190 PIM

I'd be very worried if the Flyers see a young Pronger in him. It would mean the Flyers defensive scouts are blind.

Yeah... I keep going back to Morrissey... jumped from .67 ppg to 1.25ppg this season despite not having a lot of help on a mediocre team... played well for Canada in the WJC... and is wearing the 'C' for Prince Albert. That kid looks like he's going to be a beast.

I think Buffalo is going to have a fire sale. I think newly acquired Stewart and Halak are definitely going to me moved. Moulson I think is a goner. Ehrhoff, Myers could also be on the move. And of course Miller, and Ott have been dealt already.

That is a good analogy. If it turns out to be a good pick, wow. It's gonna be fun to watch. If it's a swing and a miss it's really going to hurt. Now sure, no one in the draft is a sure thing but given the current state of the D Morin was not a guy I had on my radar for that reason.

Luckily tho, Hagg fell in our laps and I think he has a really nice shot to be a contributor at the NHL level.

I said this at the draft and I still stick by it. Look at Hagg as your 1st rounder and Morin as the 2nd rounder and you'll feel a lot more at ease.

The Jets pissed me off with that.

Trouba, Morrissey, Bogosian, Buff and Enstrom is a solid top 5.

Yep. Hopefully out of Hagg, Alt, Ghost, and Morin 2 of the lot are solid NHL regulars. If that is the case I would be ok with it.

Haha, which is why people don't like the JVR trade. Anyway, Im curious what this team does around the deadline. Its when I see poop going down, and I could see Holmgren keeping his job with the turn-around after the disaster start.

I wouldn't say that offensive minded defenseman are rare. If Morin winds up a dominant defensive defenseman, who swallows players up defensively. That kind of player is every bit as important as a puck moving offensive defenseman. I'd love for the kid to also have an offensive pedigree to his game, but I'm not going to think any less of him as a prospect because he's not considered an offensive defenseman

I really was hoping the Flyers were going to have a shot at Risto. I think other than Jones, he will be the next best dman from the 2013 draft. Morrissey is definitely trending in the right direction.

Pronger's offensive game was a force even at 16-20. It was always there.

Not saying Morin can't find it.. just saying they're not comparable RIGHT NOW
