Nieuwendyk has to be remembered as one of the worst GMs in recent history.

- hereticpride

But such a good player, especially on those Dallas playoff teams.

He struggled just a tad in the front office.

There would have to be at least 3.1M going in the deal to Edm, or somewhere else. And adding that 6M for future years is going to make it harder to improve the defense.

Considering the Flyers were rumored to want to sign Parise and in conversations with Columbus for Nash, I think it is apparent they feel finding a scoring winger for G is pretty important.

Had he stayed Nichushkin would have fallen right in our laps.

Not that we even would have taken him.

I think they're open to it for sure, but they have only so much room to play with. And I know where I'd put the priority towards. Of course, other moves could be made in the off season.

If trade history repeats itself, Shero should have his way with Gillis and leave him pretty sore. I hope not. It was bizarre to hear a Pittsburgh writer/reporter drop that kind of info...
- Nucker101

If Gillis is intent on trading Kesler, and he only approves a trade to a few teams it kind of ties his hands.

I think it's clear Vancouver is going to be in sell mode now with Sedin going down yesterday.

They could find him in this draft. Lots of wingers in the first round this year. I would hate to have to trade Coburn to create a even bigger hole on D.

Basically, with the rumors flying earlier that GMs from both teams were directly scouting would suggest major assets being involved. Logically, I don't believe the Flyers would be calling MacTavish for blueline help.

It goes without writing blueline help should be the priority, but the Flyers have always coveted skilled forwards.

Morin is a project. 7 of the players picked before him I believe are already playing in the NHL. And one of those who hasn't yet is Jonathan Drouin.

Suffering through a brutal season, and coming away with a player at least 3-4 years away from contributing is a disappointment.

I'd really love Kesler or Bieksa, but maybe 5 years ago.

Both guys play a hard style, and have a injury history.

Stay away Flyers, stay away. Keep with the course, keep what you have intact. Too many stupid deals around this time of year, and unless it really makes sense... I hope they do nothing.

What really matters is how Morin winds up in the future. I believe he's what 18? Hasn't played a single second of Pro Hockey and there is already disappointment associated with the pick? Pessimism at it's finest.

I'd be perfectly content if they claimed him and flipped Downie & Meszaros for picks...and then sat on their hands.

I kind of agree of with your point, but not your premise.

It's not how fast you make the show, it's how good you play once you get there. Case in point, Grigorenko's made the jump right away and has parts of 2 seasons under his belt, but you're not going to find anybody who thinks he's better than Teuvo Teräväinen, who has yet to play a single NHL game in the league still.

Likewise, one of the best players from the 2010 draft, Yevgeni Kuznetsov, has yet to play a game almost 4-years after his draft date.

I dont know how much of a project he is. But I don't get this reasoning. I would hope the Flyers take at least 3 years until they bring him up. Kid was young even for being drafted. We know he can skate, we know he has a temper, that's good stuff. Let's see if he can put it together.

Agreed. Whining about Morin now is pointless. Nurse got picked four spots ahead of him and isn't in the NHL, even though Edmonton has the worst defense in the league. This is because it's very rare for an 18 year old to be able to be a full time NHL defenseman. Jones can do it, but Ristolainen only got 19 games for the terrible Sabres before they sent him to the AHL to develop properly.

Risto shouldn't have been anywhere near the NHL lineup... ditto Zadorov... that was Darcy Regier being a freakin idiot, trying to ruin another 1st-round prospect.

Fair points. Well taken. A big dman like Morin is going to take a while to develop, grow into his body etc... The disappointment I have isn't with Morin himself, it's the fact it's going to take a good amount of time for the pick to pay dividends.

For some reason I'm worried the Flyers see a young Pronger in Morin, and that's why they picked him. The odds of him becoming anything close to Pronger are astronomical. Of course he doesn't have to be Pronger to be a very good player.

Agreed. I don't want the Flyers to rush the kid. Let him develop at his own pace. As I said my disappointment isn't with Morin, it's the fact the fruits of a miserable season are going to take 3-4 years to ripen.

Not if the projections are correct.....he's worth the wait....why rush him ? Kids a beast.....with a professional attitude and a mean streak you can't teach....oh and the time he gets to the NHL he' ll be 6'8 230 lbs . He really moves very good for such a big man.....I like the pick.

Not sure how saying it's a disappointment to sit through a brutal season, and having the draft pick be 3-4 years away from contributing is "whining about Morin".

I'm less worried about the time he'll take to get here, especially considering they have Ghost and Alt and Gus ahead of him in the pipeline... my real worry is that he might not end up being a good player at all and guys behind him like Morrissey turning into studs... shades of the Rangers taking McIlrath with Fowler still on the board because he was huge++, mean, with the ubiquitous 'untapped offensive upside'.

I think the issue with the Morin pick, at least with a few of us, was that he wasn't really thought of as an offensive d-man. As well as seeming to be farther away to crack the lineup than others.

We shall see what happens. The temper is nice to see.

I don't dislike the pick per say. Lots of variables with dmen of this size. You don't see a ton of them develop. Tyler Myers for example still struggling 5 years into his NHL career.
