Its not as lopsided, but i'd still rather have Shattenkirk and Stewart.
- PhillySportsGuy

Absolutely. Just making a point that you can be patient like TB has been, or let someone else take on the growing pains. Both have developed well, it just took a few more years than expected for their draft slots.

Barring a trade, does Heeter get a start? They've got that rough Pens/Pens/Hawks stretch of 3 games in 4 nights, and Mason probably won't be able to lift his arms if he plays both Pens games.

possibly depending on how quickly Emery recovers...They rest of there schedule is brutal which is why I am not popping the playoff bubbly quite yet

Flyers rarely draft a clan who becomes a steady NHLer.

The best ones I can think of...

Picard (3rd round/85 overall) 2003
Pitkanen (1/4) 2002
Woywitka (1/27) 2001
Seidenberg (6/172) 2001
Ninimaa (2/36) 1993

Sbisa I left out because I forgot about him until I typed this.

I said first round drafters. I think I had this argument with you earlier about our crop of defenseman. You think Only Hagg and Morin will play in the NHL.

See I dont buy the "entertain your home fans at the draft" argument..In the end, a sports franchise is a business and the best way to draw fans is win. So I dont care if the draft is in Philly, Pittsburgh, Vancouver or Russia a franchise is going to do whatever it takes to put the best product on the ice.. To say otherwise is ludicrous to me

I agree. I do. But the Flyers know how the fans feel, and they'd love to make a big splash in front of their fans.

i dont think we will like what it would cost to obtain any person mentioned on this thread...

As I tell Buffalo fans with these insane crap for all-star proposals.

If you dont have to look twice at what you are giving up, it is a complete fleecing. Which rarely happens.

I know. I just hope they don't get frustrated with Morin. He seems like the type to take a lot of time. He may not show offensive ability for a long time. He may never show it. I just don't want people to think he should be Pronger at age 22.

Id be interested. I just think he'll cost a lot through trade and FA.
- PhillySportsGuy

Not as much as the other D men that are being mentioned as available, I think MacDonald would be a nice start towards revamping our D.

Again, the problem is obvious, he's not the big sexy name that everyone wants.

Well, he may be the #2 free agent defenseman after Niskanen. He'll be popular this summer.

You're talking about a team who generally targeted forwards in the early rounds and preferred trading 1sts for rentals. In the past few years they've stopped that, and are trying to hold onto their young defensemen. There's a very good chance that 2 of Morin, Hagg, Ghost, and Alt can crack the top-4 in 2-3 years.

There's probably a large group of fans who are upset he's not 26-year-old Pronger right now.

Just wanted to qualify your statement. Flyers are awesome at drafting centers. Dmen they're pretty pathetic at drafting.

The guys we have no we can't truly judge yet. They haven't developed enough to judge.

I dont know it just sounds like a conspiracy theory to me...I would love to hear that negotiation...Hey Dave (Polie), its Homer remember a couple of years ago when I wouldnt trade you Schenn and Coots for Weber, well its the draft, and its in our building so I reconsidered, so whatta say

I think Ghostisbehere has the best shot at making it first. He's most likely turning pro after this season, and looks like a more defensively responsible Jack Johnson.

I think that is the plan. Murray keeps saying the next 2 drafts are important for the future. But then you hear Buffalo is willing to pay Callahan and other vet FA's.

Now this whole situation with LaFontaine leaving has everyone up in arms.

They have a lot of picks and prospects, I happen to think they might be overstocking. They need to trun quantity into quality now, IMO.

- ImThatGuy

Lucky for the Sabres, Edmonton is showing the rest of the league how not to rebuild a franchise with top pick after top pick. There definitely has to be a blend of the right players. I wouldn't think it would make sense to go after Callahan, unless it's just to appease the fanbase. 1 more bad season, then you guys start to climb. I can't wait to see Zado and Risto playing, but I'm sure I'll hate it as well...

It doesn't help that Panaccio writes articles about how he's untouchable because he's future Pronger.

I don't think the Flyers will do anything big before Wednesday's deadline -- I really don't.

Holmgren is like many GMs in that he doesn't like the prices at this time of year. He doesn't mind doing stuff around the margins, like a Kent Huskins for a conditional pick, or taking a flyer on Steve Mason -- a guy he always liked -- for a conditional fourth.

But his history shows that Holmgren does his big stuff, for better or worse, on and before Draft Day and leading up to free agency. It's pretty clear, when you look back, that that's how he does it.

Certainly, things can change. Things can always change. But just looking back at how Holmgren does business...the roster we see today just might look the same at 3:01 p.m. on Wednesday.

I don't think that's good or bad -- they're in a playoff spot now, and prices are ridiculous for some of these players. Might as well ride it out and see if Baby Schenn, Couturier and Vinny can close out this year really strong and see what you have to do in the offseason to take the next step.
