Holland doesnt have any balls, he wont trade but he will sign guys like Cleary,Bertuzzi,Weiss and Tootoo to their contracts. awesome logic
oh and when he trades, he trades a 1st rounder for kyle quincey - Jurco_28
We all rag on our GM's but I think we can all be thankful we don't have Feaster of MacTavish! There are some awful GM's out there that destroy their teams for years. |

Meh, it's far from the worst trade in Canuck history. I'm happy he tried and failed instead of doing nothing and failing. - 1970vintage
Actually I think doing nothing would have been better. Canucks would probably have a pure goal scorer in their system/roster with a good cap hit.
Instead canucks had a few redundant years of Ballard only to buy him out (compliance). Total fail on all levels. |

Zetterberg and Datsyuk can't stay healthy this year. Seems like this year may not be the year for them... Teams with great farm systems have this 'problem'. Look at the nucks farm system. Couple good prospects and then crap. Kind of why our team sucks. I will agree with you though that Holland has to trade some of the kids away to get some help but this may not be the right year.

Hindsight, at the time Grabner had done nothing, they chose to keep Raymond. |

Philly offer. - Fosco
Apparently I did not make it one sided enough to make my point
I think I'd even stick with Philly's offer in retrospect. Good young center who is only 21 and a much better pick than pits will be.
Anyone know if these crazy Edler + Kes to Montreal rumors are fan fiction or are they actually considering it? |

You don't think GM's pass inside info to the media to try and help with leverage? Canucks Army speculated the Kesler info could have gotten out because a team was unhappy with the negotiations of a trade and they wanted to kickstart the process again. GM's play funny games with the media. - 89_hockey
I assume it was the Canucks who leaked the info. They have the most to gain. |

Nope because he got rid of Ballard and his poop contract. Basically got the canucks to take that contract for nothing. It's Gillis that traded another drafted player. You got to keep those drafted players to be successful. - bloatedmosquito
The way Tallon kept Grabner... |

I would not be surprised and I did wonder if Gillis leaked it out to drive up the price. |

ya for pitts/philly cuz detroit is not trading for him
penguins offer was a joke though, a 3rd liner, a pick and a decent prospect. |

If I'm a Canucks fan I do not want gillis making a kesler trade ....if history has shown us anything gillis won't get the massive return you all hope for ...he won't get fleeced but odds are when the deal is done your first reaction won't be a positive one |

Well to be truthful this is one deal I will be patient with. The price has to be right or don't trade. It will change the complexion of the Canucks , so it must be right. |

It also puts the decision on Kesler. Means the team isn't seen as giving up on this year as much as trading a player who wanted to be moved. |

Well he's our GM, so there aren't really any other options are there. He ain't goin anywhere, whether I want him to or not. |

I would absolutely hate seeing Kesler in CHI
But if they can get Teravainen, a 1st, and another asset or two of value, that would go a long way in a re-tool.
Teravainen is a stud.
The main piece has to be high-end. Gotta take something like that over a deal that offers more value but is a "quantity" package. - Fosco
Could you imagine how awkward it would be in that locker room? |

There were multiple teams in on Ballard at the time.
It's widely reported Gillis got caught in a bidding war for him—so MG wasn't the only one fooled by Ballard...he just ended up winning the biggest fool award... |

The one positivie about Gillis trading Kes is that he makes his list of players he wants to target and goes for them. I know its against popular opnion but the Hodgson for Kassian deal I think was a good deal. Hodgson is a second line center with defensive liabilities.
Kassian is potentially a first line winger with size and grit and those guys are impossible to get. How many teams are looking for 'size up front' or 'grit'? There is a long list....
The timing of the deal was horrendous. Canucks were in win now mode and Kassian won't reach his potential for a couple more years....
The point is Gillis tries to trade quality for quality. Targets specific players that are hard to get. He's made some misses but at least he is better than Feaster... What a disaster last year for you poor flames fans. How they ever thought he was a good idea is beyond me. His articles on The Hockey News were even bad. |

Everyone just assumes kesler is as good as gone ...like luongo was ....I think the draft would be a more ideal time to trade kesler ...if the Canucks miss the playoffs maybe gillis isn't your gm by then ..... |

Tony Gallagher yesterday on the preface show ripped AV for turning Ballard into a sobbing pile of Jello. He said he was a very decent Dman that AV suffocated with the Canucks core. |
