Ouch.
Pass. - Fosco
I'd pass too on the Detriot deal. Detriot never overpays for a player and thats what we need. They are loathe to give up their young players because they realize they need the new wave with the way their vets are getting injured.
I hate Chicago but they have some awesome prospects to target. It would suck seeing Kes on that team but if you can get teravainen another top flight prospect like say Pirri or the other winger as part of the package.... |

If Gillis gets a good young forward, a top end prospect and another significant asset I'll be happy. I would not take Sutter/Pouliot/1st from pens. Sutter does not have offensive upside, Pouliot is awesome but their 1st is going to be a very low 1st. Maybe if its a 2015 first because the pick is deeper. - 89_hockey
If Gillis took Sutter as the center piece coming back our way I'd be (frank)in pissed!! We/he can do so much better than that. |

It's for Kesler.

That's not a "leak to the press", that's a reporter speculating on what it would likely cost.
She also mentions Buffalo moving Ehrhoff, but Buffalo would be stupid to move him if they plan on contending for a cup in the years to come. Right now they're on the hook for $10 in recapture penalties. |

Pouliot is good, yup.
But the Canucks need high-end forward prospects, especially if they're trading out one of their only top-6 forwards.
I don't see a match with Pitts. |

Breaking news: Safeway changes it score and win contest to any Canucks team scoring 3 goals in a game. Prize remains at $1 million. |

That was three years of steady decline under AV, culminating with the lowest total in 24 years - but in a 48 game season. His point is valid though, they are behind last year's pace by about 9 goals.
My point was that the scoring slump didn't "start" when Tortarella arrived, it was already in overdrive. - 1970vintage
Which I agree with. |

You don't think GM's pass inside info to the media to try and help with leverage? Canucks Army speculated the Kesler info could have gotten out because a team was unhappy with the negotiations of a trade and they wanted to kickstart the process again. GM's play funny games with the media. |

Nope because he got rid of Ballard and his poop contract. Basically got the canucks to take that contract for nothing. It's Gillis that traded another drafted player. You got to keep those drafted players to be successful. |

sure, but as the article is written, it doesn't say "Vancouver is asking for", it says "it would likely cost". I read it like HSJ's opinion, not as some kind of insider information. |

If the truly is the beginnings of a retooling Kes won't be the only asset traded. With any luck they would trade two defensemen as well. I want forwards too but they have got to trade more than just Kesler so why handicap yourself by only trading for specific players. |

For Edler?
I'd hope for much more than that for Kesler. - Fosco
Agreed. If Det thinks that's too much maybe they should focus on Gagner or Hemsky instead. |

Meh, it's far from the worst trade in Canuck history. I'm happy he tried and failed instead of doing nothing and failing. |

You have to target areas of weakness.
If he's gonna trade Kes for a package where the main piece is a D, there better already be a deal in place to get a forward in another deal. |

Retooling is a year or two process of moving out vets. If they truly embrace it by moving out 2 D, Lou (if miracles are possible) and depth players like hansen you should be able to address every position. If the canucks could get a legit future top center in the Kes deal you take that over a bit more value from elsewhere but if there is clearly better value built around a Dman they should do that.
Philly offers Couts and first for kes.
Pits offers sutter, pouliot, 1st 2015, 2nd
Which one do you take? |

I would absolutely hate seeing Kesler in CHI
But if they can get Teravainen, a 1st, and another asset or two of value, that would go a long way in a re-tool.
Teravainen is a stud.
The main piece has to be high-end. Gotta take something like that over a deal that offers more value but is a "quantity" package. |
