I'd be happy with a young top 6 forward, not gonna get a 1st liner, but a 2nd liner would be nice, or someone who has shown flashes of that type of ability during stretches. With Girardi now off of the trade/UFA market, you basically have Edler, Hoff and that's pretty much it(maybe Buff?) that are available as legit top 4 guys. Plenty of forwards available, supply and demand should be on MG's side...you would hope. - Nucker101
You're banking on his ability to negotiate effectively? Hasn't history taught you ANYTHING, Nucker? |

Exactly, these guys just want him because of where he was born. He doesn't fit my criteria |

Gillis would never want Connolly, anyways. He played in the WHL, and Gillis has WHL-phobia. Maybe he thinks guys from the dub have cooties. |

Ty Anderson's take on the rumored offer:
"@_TyAnderson 45s
LRT: I know it's a 'source' story, but it just baffles me that the Pens seemingly always offer trash for gold. And it works!" |

Where are these Pittsburgh rumours coming from, and who's involved?
I had a VISL cup game, so I'm a little behind on the news...

Gotta respect Shero for it, he pulls it off and doesn't have to worry about his fellow GM's approval. |

This is just not a well thought out comment. Raymond proved himself defensively. He then proved himself offensively. He was and is a better player than Grabner.
Regardless, the Canucks had certain needs back then which differ from their needs now. They traded from their strength (young, fast, offensive upside) to bolster their weakness (they wanted more defensive depth and a D-man with a history of health, this was the time of Ohlund & Salo getting injured every other shift after all).
I never said they shouldn't give young players a chance, but Grabner was redundant and not as good as Raymond. Ballard filled a need before he got hurt and before AV broke him. - KB3Point0
At the time of the trade Raymond was older and better but I am not sure what scouts or hockey minds thought of Grabner's potential.
I was disappointed to see Grabner go. Didn't seem to get a fair shot. To be a fly on the wall to learn if Grabner was a throw in or was coveted by Florida? Just didn't seem right to see him just waived or released by Florida.
But I certainly agree about looking at your assets to determine where you are good and have depth and where you are weak and trying to improve. We have depth in defense and goal, that is what we should be looking at to move to strengthen the top 6 and improve scoring.

Hope that's a (frank)ing joke.
You keep Kesler if that's the best offer... - Fosco
No kidding. It's a horrendous offer. If that's as good as it gets for Kesler, there's no point in trading him. |
